VRS front shock heavy mist/leaking ? give me your 2 cents

Featured Replies

Hi all.

After getting the usual advisory for "Front Shock absorbers light misting of oil" I read the forum and this link and realised it was a normal thing on these cars.

Still, I decided to go and investigate.

I found that the mist is all the way down to the bottom of the shock, so falling outside of what VW considers normal in http://www.vwgolf.org/leaks_at_shock_absorbers-1838.html.

Please check the video .... https://youtu.be/cWlKW7RSVgs

There are no knocks or bangs that I have ever noticed.

Should I change them ?

Give me your 2 cents :)

Cheers.

Surprised that past the MOT, looks like pretty severe leakage to me. I would change them.

Mines done the same. Mine is only 18 months old as well!

havent replaced them yet.

They looked knackered to me too.

If you put your full weight over the strut and let it go and it bounces a couple of times or more it’s 100% time to replace them.
