2019 citgo potenetial leak

Featured Replies

Hi ive notices some fluid on bottom right of bumper lowers not much but not normal

Have marked coolant reservoir and that's not dropped , oil level good , brake reservoir good

Only leaves steering fluid

Where is the steering pump and cap etc located ?

Is this a common issue with citigos only done 8k miles

Thanks Steve

I could be wrong but I thought the Citigo power steering was electric.

If it's leaking, it's leaking electrons

Hope it is electric as can't be leaking

Cheers Steve

No, this is unusual.

Are you certain about whether the leakage is oil-based or water-based? The former includes engine or G/box oil, brake/clutch/steering hydraulic fluid, and the latter is coolant, or drainage of rain water (or normal aircon condensate, if you run aircon).

Has the car recently been serviced or had any changes whatsoever?

The steering is electro-hydraulic by the way, which means the pump is electrically driven rather than belt driven, but the rack is hydraulic (a much more efficient system,  as it happens and fully powered irrespective engine revs).

That's what I wasn't sure about - so there is fluid in there somewhere

Feels oil based , not been serviced recently last serviced June 2020 , engine oil level not moved

from the location stands a fair chance its steering fluid  but hard to see  ?

Thanks for the replies and help

Just as well you have lots of Warranty then, and if you feel you do not want to drive to a dealership get Skoda Assist out to you.

They can be with you by 8pm.

You don't seem to be wrong according to ETKA. Electromechanical power steering I see diagrams for. Electro-hydraulic I don't. e.g. here: https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/citigo/cit/2013-727/4/

CitigoSteering.pdf

Pretty certain it's an electric steering column and regular mechanical rack.

So leak could be from mechanical rack ?

Will have to keep an eye on it

Would I get a warning light if gear oil low ?

It looks like it is not hydraulic - I haven't looked, as I was just going on this from Skoda; they say it is electro-hydraulic!!! That normally just means the pump is electric....

Weird.... But the steering still works surprisingly well !

Either way, that is not going to be a source of the leak.....

Not really. There will be grease there but not hydraulic fluid.

No warnings about gearbox oil level, but in the unlikely event it was leaking, chances are you'd see where it was coming from, from under the car.

As before, is the fluid oily or watery?

Oh you said it feels oil based..... Missed that.

Put a sheet of white card under the car, weighed with something heavy. Let the car drip on it, and see if you can see the colour of the fluid.

I have the same problem. Did you ever find the cause?
