Snip Snip...

Featured Replies

its the health hib, this is a health question.

As some may know, following the arrival of Spud jr in Feb (feels like a couple of weeks but a different timeline ago!) my wife has been through a medical **** storm that still isnt fully resolved.

we made the very real decision during the worst of it in March that we cannot have another pregnancy, as the thoughts and fears of repeating the events of thos first 2months is traumatising.

straight up as a result of  this decision, along with the being knackered from young baby and ongoing symptomatic fallout my wife suffered,  and our own paranoias about potential pregnancy have led to our sex life being pretty non existent - letting the fears get in the away of anything else and worrying about failure rates of contraceptive methods...

so, i have rung a clinic to enquire about getting a vasectomy. no needle anesthetic and keyhole entry, very short recovery time of a couole of days and costs less than than 500quid.

has anyone else had this done? what are the feelings about it post event?

I had it done many years ago under a local anaesthetic and I have never regretted it. I remember the 2 female doctors doing it discussing all sorts of run of the mill things whilst they were operating on me. The recovery period was very short and I had no real post surgery pain. I think that I only took paracetamol the day of the operation and I was back at work the following day.

What if your next wife wants children though? Or the one after that?

:wondering:

They could have discussed chipolata sausages and whether it was a bit chilly in the operating theatre if they'd wanted to make you feel worse :)

ones enough 😂

it is reversible, but i dont envisage rhat happening

Yep been there and done that.  Reasons were similar-ish in as much as we found we had more than enough to cope with with my youngests epilepsy and other issues and couldn't risk another kid with a similar condition that at that stage we thought was genetically inherited.  My wife had also had two difficult pregnancies and births.

In terms of the op it was all quick and easy just a little weird with the smell of cauterising (think burning yourself with a soldering iron) and some numbness and bruising after.   It did take a while to get an 'all clear' though...

In terms of 'emotions' it was good to have it done and remove the thoughts in the back of your mind about stuff...   So good in that repect but otherwise no great shakes or difference as our concerns were and are different to yours.

we had a mis carriage before each of our 2's creations, so yeah, pregnancy was incredibly stressy the first time around. second wasnt as bad, but 2 csections, and all the hassle my wife has been through since the second one without a feckin pandemic has been really difficult.

its nice to hear from some people who have made the decision too :)

helps reinforce the belief its the right thing.

Sally miscarried before our first arrived.  After our second (25 on Friday, so some time ago now) we decided on the same lines as you.  We went a different route though and while other friends went down the vasectomy route, we (Sally) decided to have her fallopian tubes clipped as it was she that didn't want to get pregnant again.  Was done via three keyhole points, and while far more invasive than what I could have had, it worked out well for us.

If Sally hadn't gone down a different path, I'd have definitely had the snip.

Feels very wierd doesn't it!...   and doing the actual 'shaving' bit is quite nerve wracking...

Wishing you a pain free experience and a speedy recovery Mac.
