Ask the seller if he/she can find the equivalent code on the sticker of the vehicle that's come out of.  It might be an idea to ask what year that's from and the mileage on that car's odometer, while you're at it.

Actually, I'm not sure those pictured part numbers are necessarily helpful, as they seem to be just casting part numbers for that half of the gearbox case, rather than part number of the whole complete gearbox.   So there may be overlap between casting numbers and different gearbox codes.  Better to go by code.

I will get my dad to message the guy. Do you know what I should be searching for I’ve seen a lot listed that mentioned bzg what makes it compatible?

If the listings say BZG (engine code) then they should be compatible.  They'll either be the same gearbox code as yours, or an earlier or later one. Ratios will be very close if not the same.

Get one that's as young as possible and with lowest mileage.

Edit: How many miles has your car done? What problem is your box having?

My car has done 105000 it’s the bearings that have gone in the gear box my dad said it’s probably cheaper to buy a whole gearbox than pay for the labour of getting the bearings change.

I'd agree, and did the same on our Mk1 18 months ago. Ours lasted about 160k, found one with 100k less for £165 delivered. Felt like a slight gamble but paid off.

This may be of interest to some of you, he did an earlier one showing getting the box out.

Do you know of any good Skoda mechanics that are around the Swindon area?

Sorry, no, I did the swap myself.

How hard of a job is it do you think you could do it with out a lift or a pit?

I did it without either, but it isn't easy; lots of grief would be a better description, and takes quite a while too.

In fact just recently I discovered that I'd cocked it up a bit, in that the clutch that I'd fitted a couple of years before the swap got some damage during the swap and needed replacing again..

Not a job to take lightly.

No, don't try, you'll get in a mess, it's half a days work with a lift and worth every penny.

I’ve found a mechanic to do the job but he wants me to get the oil do you know what oil it needs I’ve tried looking on euro car parts but it’s showing tons of different types with differing prices.
