Enigine not turning

Featured Replies

Good afternoon all I am new to this forum and am lookfor help with my octavia scout.

Driving to work on Tuesday I lost all power although all dash lights etc were on. I coasted to a safe area the car would turn but not start.

I call AA and they said it was the timing belt snapped.

Today I took the cover off and the timing belt is there and tight. The engine starter turns but the pulleys on the timing belt don't.

After some help please

Is the timing belt tight (I'm wondering if there is a tensioner that has failed)?

(I had this happen to me on a Vauxhall Corsa GSi16V)

The only way the engine can turn but not the cam pulleys, is if the crank pulley is not turning with the crank. Unfortunately that would result in the pistons hitting the valves, so a major rebuild would be required.

Hope I am wrong.

How much slack is on the belt? If a tensioner had failed the belt would be easy to lift off from the pulleys.
