which prt of exhaust pipe do i need?

Featured Replies

hi guys,

my car has been fitted with a modded exhaust pipe which makes it sound very loud. i really want it back to normal.

question is, which part of the exhaust do i need to buy? the muffler bit(bit sticking out of the car on the back) or the whole lot (complete exhaust pipe?)

many thanks

What car is it?

The one you linked last night is for a 1.4 engine, it says.

TBH your best bet is to take the car to an exhaust place and ask them which bit is making the noise, and to replace it with standard if it's non-standard or leaking.  Buying the part yourself will save you nothing unless you can fit it yourself, and it's not really the weather for that sort of thing. You just have the added risk of changing the wrong section, and adding new leaks at the joints if you DIY it.

here is teh video.

Sounded a bit leaky. Put your hand over both outlets, with a nice thick cloth, and listen for the gasses escaping from along the pipe. It may well be a joint but could just as easily be a muffler/silencer part. I think you should follow Eino's advice, though and ask for a quote from an exhaust centre. The rear box will most likely be a little louder then bog standard too, so if you like it quiet, that'll want replacing too but is solid, may have a (Little) resale value.

thank yu, will try find a place local to me.

If you are trying to get a standard one beware of the cheap, bottom of the barrel variants. I got a midpipe and backbox for my fabia a few months ago and it had to be cut and rewelded to fit, even though it was the one for my car. Sounds nicer mind, a little more noise from the engine without being at all obnoxious.
