Your (mystery) Service is Due.

Featured Replies

I got a lovely automated impersonal mail-merge generated email today saying "a service" is due on my car.

Given that they no longer supply cars with service books and details of what needs doing when, I much prefer asking strangers on the Internet for advice as to what service the dealership is talking about, rather than actually speak to someone on the phone

The car is 21 months old and has only done 9500 miles, 150 of which are from its first 6 months sitting at the dealers before I got it.

It's on variable servicing, with the car telling me the next oil service is due in 5800 miles, and the next inspection service in 9400 miles.

So what's your money on for what the garage thinks is due?

Aircon?

Brakes?

Assuming the service reminder is genuine, I'd take a guess that they mean 2nd service. Isn't your annual mileage a bit low for variable servicing?

Second service?

It hasn't even had a first one.

Given that COVID meant I haven't done a commute in about 8 months, plus a holiday driving to Holland was cancelled, my mileage would have been a lot bigger

@Wet Kipper

Do you know when the car was built, when it came into the UK, and when the PDI was done,

and was the PDI done weeks or months before the car was First Registered.

*Maybe they had it in the Showroom Un-Registered /so no VED on it, and had to Register it before the end of 3 months, end of a Quarter.*

?

When does your Manufacturers Warranty End?, it should be 3 years from when First Registered.

So on Variable servicing the first service from the PDI being done is at 24 months.  or 18,000 -20,000 miles.

But a Member posted last week that their 18 month / 16,000 TDI was coming up for an Oil Service.

Maybe these bunlered cars from the time of waiting to get WLTP Certification are coming up early for oil changes due to just how long the VW508 00 / VW 509 00 0w 20 FS IV crap oil has been in them.   Months sitting in engines in cars stored who knows where before ever getting to the UK.

The car was first registered on march 1st 2019. I've no idea when it was built, or PDI performed.

Because it counted as a used car, i have a "appoved used multi-point checklist", not PDI paperwork

I really should just call them and ask what they're on about.
