Disconnected then reconnected front radar and now I get front assist not available message

Featured Replies

As the title says.

While looking into something I've disconnected the radar sensor at the front of the car and reconnected it when I was finished, but now when I start the car I see a 'Font assist not available' message.

Any ideas what I've done?

Doesn't matter. After some research it looks like i'm going to have to pay to have it recalibrated. I've obviously moved it's position.

£324... WOW!

Might try getting the error reset by a local specialist first on the off chance that it doesn't come back.

Only one dealer that can do it in at least 60-70 mile radius! Thankfully it's the dealership closest to us, but it just means I can't try and get it done cheaper elsewhere.

First check that you have reconnected the radar unit properly......

3 things you can try before a visit to the stealers.

Use an appropriate scanner to reset any errors, could be simply a latched error like classic airbag error that requires resetting via OBD.

Drive around a bit, with a few restarts, it may require to see the radar connection is stable before clearing down, a bit like the EML does after a faulty coil pack change.

Check the unit is simply not a bit skew whiff, cable pulling it back or mounting springs not pushing it into correct position. You might even try a minor tweak of the adjusting screws (make a record of any adjusments so you can undo yoir attempts)

Lastly, remember glass companies such as Autoglass do ADAS recalibration, probably much cheaper than a stealer who might also try to convince you need a new radar unit for several hundred pounds.

One of dealerships I spoke to said to try glass replacement companies. I rang National Windscreens who has a place not far from us, and I've booked in there next week £192 inc vat.

Hopefully it clears itself before then.

 Well done! I bet that was a relief. Don't forget to cancel your appointment with National Windscreens.
