Rear view mirror - auto dimming?

Featured Replies

Sorry if this seems a really simple question.

I have the SE First Edition Estate.  The website seems to suggest that it should have auto dimming rear view mirror as part of the interior feature.  What is meant by this?  My old Fabia's mirror would dim the headlights but the rear mirror in this one only darkens by flicking the switch manually?  Is the website incorrect?  Have I mistaken what auto-dimming is?  Can anyone with the SE confirm the type of rear view mirror that they have please?

don't want to open a new thread so instead i'll borrow this one :)

One option i'm missing with my Stlye version of Octavia is the option of automatic lowering of the side mirrow when in reverse gear. I did not come across anywhere about that feature until i saw the review of vRS octavia in the link attached (skip to 22:37)... dont know weather that option is vRS only or what... i want to have that too. Anyone has got any clue?

I wanted that option too, but it required side assist AND driver side memory seat.. That totaled to about 800 pounds, so I skipped it.

I have a 4 week old Octavia MK4 SE First Edition. I have recently asked Skoda UK how to activate the following missing features which are all listed as standard equipment for the SE model on the Skoda website...

  • Rear parking sensor with manoeuver assist (rear sensors work but where's manouever assist)
  • Cruise control with speed limiter  (cruise control works but where's the speed limiter)
  • Folding parcel shelf
  • Electric boot release
  • Voice control

It sounds that you are adding the lack of auto dimming rear view mirror.

So far I have not heard back from Skoda UK.

Also my bluetooth phone will not connect to the infotainment.

However, it's a great car and I am averaging about 51 mpg.

Hi,

Here is the reply from my local dealer:

Both myself, Brian, and Stuart have looked into this for you and can confirm the following.

The correct fitment for SE First Edition is a standard, non auto dimming rear view mirror.  We have checked the brochures from back when the car was launched, all the way up to the current brochure and they do not specify that it has ever been a standard equipment item. We have also checked four other SE First edition models that we have on site and they are all the same.

SE L First edition is the only current trim level that comes with an auto dimming rear view mirror.

We have contacted Skoda Retailer Support and spoken to them on the phone, and they have acknowledged that there is some inconsistency with the website, which incorrectly lists the SE First edition as having the auto dimming rear view mirror. They are working to amend this at the earliest possible chance.

Sorry for any trouble that this may have caused you.

Sounds like a mistake on the website

Hmmm... I do have side assist but dont have driver memory seat. If that is correct than ok, but i specifically asked when configuring whats the difference with side mirrors if i opt that or not. Was said that the difference is only that it has memory funciton which adjust to the seat possitions. No word about lowering when reverse...

I find it stupid, when customers usually know more that dealers themselves... Its not just the case with Skoda, my previous car was Peugeot 308 and when buying i was almost instructing the seller of its hidden characteristics... 😂🤦‍♂️

From looking at this webpage (albeit for the Kodiaq), it suggests manouever assist is automatic braking when reversing.  I think I may have unintentionally activated this yesterday when reversing into my drive but I would not want to test this out again!

When I asked for a brochure I was told by the dealers that they no longer printed brochures and that all the information was on the Skoda web site. Has any one seen a brochure for the Mk4 series?

think manouver assist is where if someone pulls out on you in auto stops the car when reversing.

also the speed limiter is hidden on the button on steering wheel for the car assist options (found this out other day) you can swap the cruise control for speed limiter.

i also question the electric boot release and was told must of been mistake on website even though its there in black and white.

yes correct, had it auto stop twice and scared the life out of me 😂

Have got an SE First Edition and don't have an auto dimming rear view mirror. Skoda say it's a mistake on the website. Don't have a boot lid release button either. Skoda say this is a mistake on the website. Think you are expected to hope for the best  that the car you buy is actually equipped properly and in accordance with stated specification.

i believe (correct me if im wrong) this is classed as false advertising? Very naughty of skoda tbh

"Inconsistency", -  sometimes they inadvertently tell the truth :D

Skoda UK's official response was that it was clearly a mistake on the website regarding the autodimming and there's nothing they can do including retrofitting of an autodimming mirror. I asked how a customer was suppose to differentiate what's a mistake and what they are suppose to have in their car and their reply was to just check the order receipt. I am curious if there are other features in the car of other trims that are mentioned on the website?

Does the SEL have an auto dimming rear view mirror?

i do but i have first edition, not sure on the normal SEL

There do seem to have been some changes to spec over the last few months - I created a 'car card' from the configurator back last June and can see it says my car should have the auto dimming rear view mirror (SE Technology).

Having received the car in December I found it doesn't, but it does seem to have automatic wipers which I wasn't expecting!

Ok so it’s probably a wait and see what turns up. I’m now starting to doubt that I’ll have folding door mirrors as well as the website doesn't seem to mention them although they are specified on the paperwork from the dealer so I’ll try and hold them to that!

if you dint buy the optional extra i think you will have folding mirrors just not memory ones, this was the only reason i wanted the first edition to get all this stuff for no added extra cost haha

That’s definitely my understanding that the first edition SEL’s would be memory to go with the electric memory seats. It really shouldn’t be a mystery what features the car will turn up with!

Would have been nice to have had the electric boot release. Strange how they added it to the vRS but not the SEL 1st Ed.
