Octavia 2012 rear door mystery piece, cannot identify

Featured Replies

Help needed to identify a part and where it is from in the car.  Have just done a repair for faulty solder joint in rear door lock module on 2012 Octavia. The door open indicator on the dash works fine. Now at the point of putting back the large metal panel have a mystery piece in the box of bits. See photos and video. I don’t recognise the part or recall having removed the piece during taking apart the door. Nobody else was involved in the job so I cannot see how it could have gotten there except by my hand. Is it part of the door or from somewhere else in the car?

The interior roof handle hook?

Thanks for your suggestion MicMac. Had a look, this is a photo of the rear roof handle with integrated hook. Is this what you were thinking of.

Yes, it was just now I realised my error.

Strangely, the more I think about it, I'm sure I've dealt with the part before...

I'll let you know if my Alzheimer's lets up!

Could it be one of these?  I think it could be a clip to hold the door seal ... or maybe a cable clip?

I was investigating a blown rear door speaker so I think you're safe, nothing internal.

Could it be a door seal retaining clip?

if i had to guess its a cable clip, from the loom going to the speakers, or maybe a guide for the pull bar from the internal door pull to the lock mech?. it has 2 little barbs on the wider side (bottom in the end profile pic), so they clearly hold something thats pushed into the gap. the narrower side (top in your end profile shot) looks like it hooks into a slot somewhere. i havnt a door card off mine yet to visualise where it should be, sorry.

Thanks for your suggestion StickyMickey. The link led to a lot of parts but could not find the part there.

A big thanks to MicMac, StickyMicky and mac11irl for your help. Your suggestions led me to go back and look at the door and the panel a good few times. Eventually I spotted a mark in the rubber near the end of the small glass section. Looked at another Octavia through the glass and there was the clip. I was really giving up on it before getting your help. I was thinking that it must have been some stray piece from somewhere else. See the photos. Thanks

Glad you got it sorted.  What exactly does it do, after all?

What Does The Plastic Clip Do:..  There is a metal edge that the top of the door panel sits in over. Part of the metal edge is covered with a plastic strip, it is the length of the window glass that goes up/down. The plastic clip is like an extension of the long plastic strip.  It acts to hold the panel in the same line as the long plastic strip.   If the clip was not in place the end of the panel would be loose.  So that’s the end of this story. A happy ending thanks to the help of MicMac, StickyMicky and mac11irl.

seems a bit half arsed design wise that it pushes out the line of the rubber seal along the bottom of the glass? surely they couldve made it more discreet so it wouldnt squash the rubber..

When I shared a workshop with others I had a collection of random unidentifiable bits segregated by having traces of engine oil/carbon deposits, transmission oil, electrical parts, odd fasteners & plastic bits like that, they key thing was they had to be unidentifiable but look important if not critical.

When someone else had something stripped down that was causing them a lot of head scratching I would select one or two pieces from my collection to add to the parts & fasteners that they had removed :D

If you kept a covert eye on them often after scratching their head they would look around to see if anyone was looking and then hide the evidence!
