Also hold the boot button on the fob, it should pop the boot :) Check it all works as should. Then we can confirm its the boot handle switch.

I did this and it popped. After 10 yrs of ownership I didn't know it did that. Thanks for that.

Requirement for a sustained button press helps avoid accidental (bum-dialling style) boot opening. Unlike other doors, the boot can't re-lock itself automatically once it's popped, I think.

Vaguely think the time can be varied with VCDS, 1 second hold, 2 seconds etc.

It can't re-lock itself. Needs manual downwards pressure to close it, then it will lock. Important not to leave the keys in it.

Yeah this is what i was trying to (albeit it very poorly) explain!

@ords hopefully this explains what im getting at a bit better for you :)

Just wanted to add my thanks to the conversation here, guidance and help with providing the spare part. Arrived well packaged and I finally got around to trying to fit it on Sunday between the showers... a bit of a fiddle but once it's sussed, it's fine. Went in well and yes boot switch now working as before.
Thanks again for your help.

Hi all

I recently had a problem with my 18 plate Octavia - the button on the boot lid just died.

I gathered my courage and removed the button form the outside. Here's the video link to a short clip I made on youtube. It turned out in my case it was due to cold weather which may have had something to do with shrinkage of the contacts - it works now. But if it needs changing, I'll just by the button and easily replace it.

No need to tamper with the inside trim at all - and you can take it out even if the lid is closed (one of my initial worst fears).

Hello, New here and hoping you can help. I have a 2012 Octavia. The boot was not opening, even though I can hear the mechanism noise when pressing the button above the number plate. I ordered the latch online (not a Skoda part) replaced it, but it is still the same. What is the likelihood that the new latch is faulty. I also had to leave off the outer plastic sleeve to get it to lock for some reason. Any suggestions welcome as I would rather avoid taking it to a garage for what must surely be a simple job. Cheers
