Featured Replies

Hi guys

ive had a look through the threads re this topic but wanted an up to date answer if you can help please . my fabia has the swing head unit but i want a touch screen ,sat nav, hands free phone unit that also still allows my reverse parking sensors to work as i like them compared to a camera . there are no controls on the steering wheel and want it to look factory once fitted .

any recommendations please .not looking for el cheepo but no wanting to spend a fortune either ,middle of the road really .. cheers .. dave .

RNS 315 or RNS 510 with Bluetooth.

Thanks for the reply. This is what I found do I need anything else to fit such as a wiring harness.im not bothered about dab .and do I need to fit an external mic for phone or does the built in one do a good job?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/163671446697

Thanks again .Dave ...

The unit linked from Ebay is a Windows CE operating system looking at the advert image with 24 items on - top row RH side - so unsure what apps you can load onto it. Stated as 256Mb of Ram where the simplest Android units are a minumum of 1Gb, 2Gb or more prefered. There may be someone to comment on Widows CE system performance.

Wonder if there's a way to change it

Ask the seller for the code to access the factory settings, I managed to change my first one but a bit like VCDS the names of the parameters bear little resemblance to what they are.

On my current unit despite having access I have yet to find how to change it, its not a big deal.

I am on my second WinCE unit and they do everything that they are supposed to just fine, if you want yours to be an extension of your mobile phone then I cant comment but they do what they say on the tin in terms of radio, DVD, satnav, integrating with reversing sensors, vehicle systems, heater & steering wheel controls, reversing cameras etc etc. I have found no need for more speed or to have spent any more money, the Android units cost a lot more and for a user like me I can say after 3 years that there would be no benefit.

I don't understand all the talk about WinCE no longer being supported, what support would I want and who would I be asking for it? Certainly not the Happygoluckyshiningstarpotnoodlespacehopper company in Xianging.

Some would say that about your car but I'm sure like mine it fullfills your needs perfectly.

Ok got factory code from seller and sorted door thing no problems. Can't find how to change km to mph on vehicle details screen yet will keep looking through settings.

A result, what was the parameter called that made the vehicle display a mirror image?

Just in case mine is called the same and I hadn't realised what it was, it has to be in their somewhere!

Also what sub menu did you find it under?

All these things look to have come out of the same factory.

Its interesting when you find the settings that can change it from a premium priced VAG specific unit to a Ford/Itchifanni/whatever premiumpriced unit, its simply a case of choosing the right communications protocole for the vehicle manufacturer, there is nothing specific about the unit other than maybe a different shaped faceplate and the factory  menu setting.

I was staggered at how many different manufacturers & comms protocoles it has pre-programmed, many of which I had never heard of. On my last unit the birds eye view for the door open indications etc was my exact car model, it being an estate and even the right colour!!!!

i had to go to about device, factory settings, enter password and then select others .after that the drivers door swap slider which did the trick.

your right there are loads loaded onto it ,i didnt mess to much with it tho.

Its time I had another trek around all the weird sounding menu options, maybe I will come up trumps this time. Will keep an eye open for swap slider & others.

ive also noticed in recent calls list it just saves the number and not the contact name etc as it appears in my phone which is frustrating as i dont know the numbers just the names ,have you found a way to get this solved ?

cheers .

Sorry, cant help you, for me a car is a means of locomotion from A-B, I dont make or take phone calls while driving and have a 2004 non smartphone which rarely travels with me and would not communicate with the radio.

Region selection?

It doesn't know which language you want.

Have tried changing from NTSC to pal and selecting English but still no joy.

Perhaps it's trying to send it to the centre speaker because you have surround selected instead of stereo?
