Decisions, decisions....and so it starts

Featured Replies

And so it starts...

1st off, have had the car for a little while now, am loving it, fast, spacious, comfy.

But this is likely going to be a longtermer, last 2 fast estates were 8 years, then 10 years of ownership.

So the Superb needs to become what I want

In no huge rush and in no particular order, this is what I want to do:

Stereo - has the Canton, but just doesn't do it for me (I used build competition systems)

Thinking of just doing the front end and decent sub (trip to Audio Advice in Portadown needed for a chat, I know Phil for far too many years)

Suspension - Car doesn't have DCC, work commute is a lot of back roads, I like the handling and the ride height

But a little bit too wallowie for my liking, and thinking just dampers, but am no expert, again would need to be reputable and a quality system (Bilstien, but what ones?)

Power - Do like the output, especially how the DSG delivers it, but why stay stock...  when so easily tuned.

     Has to be reputable, so thinking Revo, might go straight for the Performance Pack;

     https://www.onlyrevo.com/product-details/performance-pack/mqb-20tsi-is38-performance-pack&engineid=244

Trip to Daltons in Portlaoise planned, have heard nothing but good things about them

Then a few little jobs, will check out upgrading some interior lights, did the whole last car and really worked, reverse light upgrade bulb, should really get a decent dashcam.

The car still needs to be my daily driver, stealthy and not showy, might even debadge the rear, especially the 4x4 badge.

I don't do shouty (yes, the last car was a WR Blue Subaru with gold wheels, but they were quickly powder coated grey, grey rear lights) but want the go and subtle improvements.

Thought?

Ideas?

Recommendations?

Am based in Southern Ireland, but will travel (when we can) to get work done

Suspension, I can vouch for fitting a set of Koni FSD's. They don't lower the ride height, retain comfort but remove the wallowing. It depends what outcome you are looking for though. Koni's are great if you want the car to feel a little more sporty but remain fairly stock, but if you want a much firmer ride and lower ride height, then you're going to need shocks and springs. Many replace the rear anti roll bar as well to help reduce body roll.

Getting a remap done make a huge difference, the only thing I will say is be careful. The IS38 turbo's are known to cause some problems. Most people don't have any issues, but some (like me) after a remap saw the IS38 turbo failing. If you do get a remap, listen for your turbo making a whine at low RPM as that's a sign it's on it's way to the grave.

Sounds like exactly what I am looking for, cheers Sheepie :)

Though I'm not seeing them available  any chance you would have a part number?

Bilstein B6?

Bilstein B6?

Have ran Bilstein for the last 10 years in the Subaru, including a rebuild a few years ago.

Fairly stiff ride, am looking for somewhere between the Superb's ride and the Subaru's, bit of research is pointing towards to the Koni's.

Suppose it's a case of getting them fitted and seeing what it drives like for my wants :)

B6 are not the firmest damper that Bilstein do for the Superb!

Hello, have you installed the KONI Special Active? How does the car feel?

No, they won't be in stock until the end of January, but they have been ordered...

No, no estarán disponibles hasta finales de enero, pero ya se han pedido ...

Please update because I am interested in knowing how they are going, I think the B12 will be too hard for trips of more than 3000 km with a woman and .. baby

Update,

Stage 1 - Engine and DSG done a while ago, loving it, might not even go to Stage 2 since it a full daily driver

LED reverse, rear indicator, puddle and rear hatch lights all fitted

Suspension - Koni Special Actives sitting in front, hopefully fitted next week

Stereo - The more I listen to the Canton system, the more I dislike it... so going mad with a full HD Audison/Hertz system in a couple of months

After that work it might just be that, then live with and continue to enjoy the car.

Only other thing really on the wish list would be an electric rear hatch, can it be retrofitted???

Actualizar

I look forward to your experience with the Koni special Active.

I see that you are only going to put the Koni in front?  why?

No, that was me missing a word...

Meant to be:

Suspension - Koni Special Actives sitting in front room, hopefully fitted next week

Fronts and rears will be fitted

I wouldn’t worry about the sound system, your hearing is going to get worse as you get older 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Can’t comment on the canton as mine doesn’t have it but simply installing my 12” sub with 500w rms amp and an audio controls LC2i plus remote has improved mine no end to the point I’m happy with the rest being stock

Superb is planned as a long termer, so needs to be what I want from it.

Cantons just don't do it for me, had Focals in the Legacy.

At the moment I just can't listen to the music I want the way I want to, so for me, needs must.

Well aware a lot of people would think I am mad (wife included) but fu*k it :D

I know a guy whose girlfriend left him after he put a £2,500 stereo in his Mitsubishi pickup. Well, it was a four-seater.

Suspension - Koni Special Actives now fitted  with standard springs

Very little driving done so far, but initial thoughts are positive.

One of my real dislikes of the standard suspension was speed bumps, work drive sends me over 7 of the sods...

And the Superb bounced and nearly bottomed out.

But now, so much better, worth the cost just for that in my opinion.

Will test out the handling more and report back.

List of jobs getting smaller, though am contemplating an electric tail upgrade...

Thanks for updating. If I could upload photos to see if I have raised the car that would be great. What springs does it have? The ones wearing the Sportline model? Try it more and tell us, I'm very interested!

Rather than raising the springs, I expect the new Koni active dampers prioide a more controlled ride over poor surfaces and speed bumps.
