How to get brake disc size?

Featured Replies

It seems there arw four brake disc sizes, 232mm, 255mm, 260mm, 272mm.

Is there a way to find out withiut directly measuring, can you find out from your VIN?

You can find out from the codes on the sticker thats usually somewhere on the boot floor.

You can normally have a pretty good guess by knowing what engine your car has, if its got 70 BHP its not gonna have 272mm discs, :D

What car is this for ?

As said sticker in the boot, i found mine on nearside rear under carpet board,  but if you have a mk2 with 1.9tdi the discs are the same as a VRS 292mm and 25mm thick, I found my size disc on Textar website brake book I then  downloaded  brake catalogue  and lists the models by year and engine size you also need to know the brake system make on front discs mine were lucas/ trw  I found this out by looking at the pads on the car and checking the catalogue to work out what discs were on the car, why because main dealers insisted  that i had a Teves system fitted and discs on the rear as i had  ABS anti lock  system and they said had to have rear discs but there were drums --had the car from new so knew it was correct and car did have ABS on the rear it's in the bearing hub not in the drum.

Looks like the PR code is 1KF which translates to 256mm/12mm(minimum 10mm).

I've seen a pair on eBay which match my reg but they are 255mm/10mm.

Would these eBay set do?

They come with pads also.

Are you saying you've seen this code on the sticker? Or speculating?

Part numbers for the bits on the 1KF option are here: https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/octavia/oct/2008-419/6/615-615065/

Match to those, or pick from aftermarket equivalents via the button in the rightmost column of the table.

Also, It might be worth checking on Eurocarparts or carparts4less, as thy may offer the correct size straight off. They CAN offer differing ones but its worth a look and is easy to send back if they send you the wrong stuff. Bay can be a PITA for that! (Be sure to use an online code, to get a big discount on list prices).

Unless you own a car from new & know it is Factory Standard, you can certainly look at codes on stickers, but you are as well measuring the disc as well because any owner anytime can upgrade discs and calipers and fit bigger ones.

Something commonly asked on here.  'What bigger brakes can i fit.'

Eurocarparts are giving me an option of 252 or 256mm. I'm pretty sure now it's 260mm I need.
