Keys locked in car

Featured Replies

:@ All sorts of rude words how can I get in estate car with keys locked inside guys? Helpppppppp :@

Don't know if this will help in your case but when I did this I called the AA who did a "non-destructive break-in" and rescued the dog (from inside) and me (from outside).

Can you see the keys?

Thanks, AG Falco

Think I'm gonna have to concede on this problem it ain't gonna happen, think a window is going to have to be replaced after I hit it 🤬🤬🤬 I managed to get a flat piece of metal to the central locking switch on centre console but no good I'm assuming this is because it will be deadlocked? Hey ho

Incomplete

Did the car lock itself?  I know if I unlock mine but don't open the driver's door it locks itself after a short delay.  And if you only unlock the boot, that locks when you close it.  My wife did that with the keys in the boot.

Yep that's what's happened I'd locked the car and had to get something out of the boot closed tailgate left keys in boot

Call the AA or RAC.  I think you can join immediately and they know a few sly tricks.  You are right, the car is deadlocked.  The manual says occupants can't open the car from the iside when it's like that.

That is the only good thing I have noticed with a Kia I have, it will not lock if keys is inside the vehicle, it just knows and won’t let it lock.

You would think VAG could do similar.

I can only assume you only have a single key, if you are looking at putting windows in 😩

Won't help in your current situation but get a spare key cut and coded from the one you have if you do it this way it will be way less expensive than sorting it out if you lose your key and have to have one cut from scratch.

Yea I don't have a spare key so it's looking like a window but am still investigating am not in any screaming rush

You will have to figure out your cheapest option. Smash glass or call AA.  Can you wait til Monday and contact a garage?  It's a good lesson learnt - never buy a car without two sets of keys.  Most cars are sold with two sets.  Who has the other one ????

Rang the RAC they are not interested as I don't have homestart never needed it in 50 years of driving, as for the spare key had the car over 2 and half years never needed it. As for not buying a vehicle because it only has one key? Errr I'll get back to you...............

I really feel for you.  Try AA Greenline and a few more.  I hope you get a bit of luck.  It cost me forty quid to get a taxi and go 25 miles to my wife and unlock it with my keys.

You dont even need to have it coded, just simply a key cut to open the door and turn on the ignition, that should allow the boot to be opened by the handle.

I invested in a second cloned key but its not much use to me at home in my keysafe, I am loathe to hide it on the vehicle.

I also like to leave my keys on/in the vehicle when I go running which is a big risk, at present they are put behind the fuel filler flap but one day the wrong person will be looking the right way.

I have a solution in mind but need to wait till I get back to the UK, I am going to buy a cheap flat metal key cut to match my ignition key, no immobiliser chip, I will fabricate a discreet pocket for it behind the fuel filler flap or another hiding place, my spare coded key will be properly hidden in a really hard to find place in the vehicle.

If ever I lose my keys or lock them in the boot I will use the non coded key to get in the vehicle then I can locate the spare key or get my keys from the boot.

When i am running I will have to find a way to lock the keys in the car out of view in the center console, failing that I can lock them in the boot, either way nobody will see me looking furtive putting something behind the fuel filler flap.

To the OP, you said that you can see the keys, you need to get a small airbag (window fitters use them) slide that into the side of the tailgate and inflate it to create a gap, then with a hook fashioned from a straightened coathanger wire get hold of the keys and manipulate them into position, with a second stiffer wire or rod you can then press the remote central locking button to unlock the doors, that is what a breakdown service operator would do.

go to the passenger door, open it, lovk the car with fob, hide key, close passenger door. the car will lock if the passenger door is open, it wont if the drivers door is used.

i spent 15months locking my insignia with the internal lock button via the passenger door due to an alarm fault... always a triple pat down of pockets to make sure i had my keys before closing the door. ( jeezus that car annoyed me so much so soon after i bought it)

Good man, I knew that there was a way that I had inadvertently locked my keys in the car in the past, they were left on the passenger seat so it was that, later on the door closed microswitch failed on the drivers door and it there was a risk of the same happening, something like that, its all a bit hazy but you have reminded me of it.

I am housesitting down the south next week, I must hide the spare key in the chassis tomorrow, a taxi ride back to collect it and back down again will cost more than £40 :D

Well as luck I suppose if there is any in this situation the key was in the boot near the tailgate so we went this route,we concluded fitting a tail light was easier than fitting a window

Smart thinking

Timpsons, the shoe people will cut a spare key blade for £11 which you could keep in yourwallet/handbag.  But they warn that if you try and use this in the ignition you might not be able to start the car after that even with the original key.  He was not sure if all makes of car were affected.  Does anyone know?

I hope you are right!  But now you have a car that can't be driven legally and will attract attention from any copper. Do you have a scap yard nearby or will you order one from eBay?

Not driving it anywhere come to that seldom drive it anywhere less than 2000 miles between last 2 MOTs, breakers yard that cater quite a bit for skoda about 15 minutes from me I bought an ESP sensor of them a while back fitted and working fine unfortunately closed today but no matter will have plenty of time tomorrow. Fitting light unit easier than fitting drivers window I'm 100% certain. Price for light unit £30 or less on Ebay worst case.
