2018 Karoq 4X4 SE - Weak Headlights

Featured Replies

We have had our Karoq SE 4X4 for nearly three years now, our dealer reckons it was the very first customer bought Karoq on British roads. It has been a great purchase, even better than the Yeti it replaced and I have just made the balloon payment and extended the warranty.

The only thing I can fault it on is the headlights which are very weak on low beam, to the extent I even wonder if they are on sometimes. My question then:

Is it possible to fit brighter bulbs than the standard fit or is it feasible to upgrade at realistic cost to LED?

Have same car, just a bit newer, and don’t find the headlights too bad, just a bit yellow which I’ve gotten used to them.  For £20 or so might be worth getting a set of upgraded bulbs to see if that makes a difference.  Alternatively, do you have any bulbs of the same type (say from spare bulb kit) to see if the original ones are failing and becoming dimmer?  Either way it’s a pretty cheap “try and see” route.

Just out of curiosity, how much did it cost to extend the warranty and for how long/how many miles?

I am assuming that from your comments, your car only has halogen bulbs.  First point to note will be - is the beam set correctly?  If you go into the MIB system, go to CAR - > Settings -> Lights - just check out high (or not) the beam is.

The mains and the dips are both H7's - easy to upgrade.

Thanks, I will try some new bulbs. "Yellow" is a very good description of the light. It's my wife's car day to day. I have a 3 Series Touring with LED lights and the difference almost is night and day.

The Warranty extension was £349 for 12 months, unlimited annual mileage, with a cover and renewal limit of 100,000. Car has only done 24K with Covid cutting 2020 to just 3K, so potentially plenty more years of ownership. I couldn't contemplate DSG without a warranty in place.

I came from a series of LRs with xenons so light colour took a bit of getting used to, but found actually seeing with them fine for likes of A9 between Perth and Aviemore.  Good enough to spot the red deer lurking beside the road.

Thanks for the info re warranty, will be there in 2 years.  Nothing like being prepared. :D
