Turbo whistle

Featured Replies

I was away roadtrip with my vRS, covered 800miles in weekend travelled all way around north of Scotland. There was some great miles to drive especially with weather being so nice. I was driving a road recommended to me - Applecross road which has many of hairpin corners and climbs to level of over 2000ft. My fabia turbo was whistling after I had been giving it some hard use, it was a fairly high pitched and just wee bit concerned!

The car performed super over the weekend apart from whistle, I had to keep up with my mate in his 270bhp 200sx and my brother in his 172.

did you keep up?

Pretty normal I think. Did it stop after it had cooled down?

mine whistles too, Rob commented on it when he had a go at the cat'n'fiddle meet, I wouldn't worry about it, mine hasn't blown up yet ;)

I think it's a function of the larger turbo. My PD100 has a practically inaudible turbo with the windows closed, open them and it's another matter though! :D

To back up Dave (Sharkrider), I really did notice the turbo within the cabin, but it was a similair noise to what my mate's PD150 Leon makes too - wouldn't worry. :)

Thanks for replys, it went away once I wasnt giving it the car as much abuse.

I tried my hardest to keep up. The 200sx pulls so strong to 120 so keeping up in standard vRS would be struggle. The clio 172 cup is brilliant handling so that blew me away on corners. I know another thread regarding vRS handling (how people think handling is poor) I was impressed with my fabia throwing it about in the corners. A bit of body roll but enjoyed driving it.

Whistle on fixed vane turbochargers is where the vanes are slightly out of allignment or something so you get a nice whistle. I know people who had it adjusted to get the whistle :P

Perfectly normal for a turbo to whistle I'd say.
