Sourcing Scout plastic arch trim

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I bought my ex regency services 2009 scout back in April 2018 as a temporary stop gap and to see if I could go down from a VW transporter to an estate car.

It's been incredible with everything on it working and nearly 20k miles later apart from a few scars from its previous life, which it wears as badges of honour, there's nowt wrong with it. 175k and still going strong.

One battle scar I've been toying with ironing out is a piece of plastic missing from the passenger wing. So I'm now trying to work out what it's called and where I can get it from. I've done the occasional forum and Google search and not found it.

Any help will be appreciated.

Cheers and merry Christmas to you all.

Dan

Depending on the build date of your car you're looking for either 1Z0 853 085 (build date to 2009-05-24) or 1Z0 853 085A (build date 2009-05-25 onwards).

The trim is actually described as part of the front bumper, which may be adding to the difficulties in locating it.  Scouts are few and far between in breakers and most breakers don't know (or care about) the differences.

skoda-parts.com are offereing either part at just over 50 Euro if that's any help - https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-parts/octavia-2/1z0853085.html

StickyMicky thanks for the detailed reply, much appreciated. I did look at skoda-parts but couldn't identify it. How do I check the build date? Mine was first registered in December 2009, it has the FL dash etc, but the earlier front bumper.

Good to know what the new price is but now I know what it is I'll start asking at breakers, I've seen people breaking them on ebay but not followed them up yet.

A dealer could give it to you from the VIN.

This is a generic graphic but it shows what the various parts of the VIN mean:

I've also used this site for VIN and option information but it still doesn't show the actual build date unless you pay 5 squid :

Whatever you do don't go thinking that the prices from Superskoda, Skodaparts.com etc bear any relation to the manufacturers price, in my experience they always far exceed the standard price from TPS, people buy because they either dont know any different and assume they will be cheaper or have so much difficulty in getting a price from the main dealer.

That said a specific part in a specific colour for a more than decade old model may no longer be stocked by VAG/TPS & if it is I would expect it to be expensive.

Thanks again for the replies, I've had VAG cars for years but whenever I've contacted our local TPS they've not been keen to sell to the public. I'm in no rush, I'll get round to it one day, it starts, drives and stops as it should
