Assist button on steering wheel

Featured Replies

Hi Folks, just looking for a little help. I picked up my 2016 VRS combi in the 23rd and I cannot work out for the life of me what the button in the attached picture does. It doesn't do anything when I press it and there is no submenu for driver assistance in the infotainment display. Any advice would be appreciated.

Do you have a camera behind the rear view mirror? If you have it then you also have lane assistance. That button is dedicated for controlling the LA (ON/OFF).

When you press it you will see new picture on maxidot display (not infotainment display). You have to (de)activate LA by pressing the scroll wheel on right side of the steering wheel.

When it is activated you will see orange sign on dash board. It will become green if you are driving faster than 60 km/h and camera can see stripes on both sides of the car.

I just double checked and there is no camera, only the light/rain sensor. Nothing appears on the maxidot either when I press it or press and hold.

That button turns your front "assist" functions on and off. Which are Front Assist ( collision prevention) and or Lane Departure Warning.

Looks like you car is not fitted with either as if you turn on Front Assist in my 2016 UK SEL it warns you have done so in the Maxidot screen. Hope that helps.

I seem to remember reading  front assist was optional in other markets.

I also have this button on my steering wheel and it does nothing. Is this a faulty button or does it simply mean my car isn't equipped with lane assist etc?

There is a strong chance it is faulty - if your car has no ADAS features then the button is simply not there.

The button is not a lane assist on/off button sorry, Although it can be used for that, it also controls blind spot, cruise control, predictive cruise control and a few other ADAS features.
