1.4 16v Auto Rattle

Featured Replies

Good Evening,

I have recently changed to a 2002 Fabia 1.4 16v Auto. Car is absolutely fantastic and seems to be doing well economy wise. I have come across one problem and thought I would ask on here before I pop into the garage. Sometimes when you are going along and let off the throttle you can hear a growling noise from the back of the car. This can change to either doing it on or off the throttle.

I have now noticed just that when I stopped it started squeakily rattling and when I revved it you heard the rumble through the car?

To me this sound like the exhaust is loose but wanted everyone's opinion. The car has 89k on the clock (Very low for me usually) and in general is in extremely tidy condition for it's age.

Check for loose heatshields above exhaust back box area.

Sometimes the retainers rust to nothing, other times the aluminium heatshield corrodes to nothing locally leaving the retainers behind on the studs.
