Coolant loss on new Octavia VRS 245

Featured Replies

Hi All,

1 month ago I bought a new (pre-reg) Octavia VRS 245 DSG with nominal 17 miles on odometer.  From the outset I noticed a slight loss of coolant ( 1mm in header tank) after every journey. After 800 miles coolant level had dropped from 10mm above max to 3mm above min.  Local Skoda dealership did a pressure check but couldnt find anything, so they refilled to original level. Coolant loss now continues at same rate.  No sign of water contam in engine oil 🙂.

No drips underneath, unsurprising as its a slow loss.

Can anyone help / advise with this please.

PS In all other respects, this car is delightful.

Thanks.

Suspect failed pressure cap (its sticking shut).  The caps can be a bit temperamental sometimes.  Several revisions have been done - but here is the latest generation - will cost you £14 plus P&P:

Waterpump issues were fixed on 2017> cars....so its not that.

One way to check to see what is happening, is to fill up the coolant bottle to maximum and shove some papertowels on the left hand on the waterbottle next to the overflow.   If the system over-pressurises and it overflows and you have wet paper-towels, then you've found your problem.

It could be an air lock somewhere, that is slowly working its way out. If it is an air lock, over time the level will stabilise.

A brand new car should be a pleasure, not a headache. There is a definite fault. Take it back and say fix it or exchange.

Agree with Redboy. I wouldn't accept that at all. Hopefully a new pressure cap will resolve, but the garage need to get that sorted.

Resurrecting a thread, but my 67 plate 245 (Dec 18 build) has a coolant leak around the thermostat housing / water pump so doesn't appear to be completely fixed for '17 onward.

6 months out of warranty so goodwill is only covering around a third of the total fix price.

@Tazdaz The waterpump does still leak - just not as much or as problematically.  Sorry you've hit this when just out of warranty.  Bad luck.
