Speed resistor pack

Featured Replies

Not having speed 1 available for aircon or heater is driving me nuts. I like the quietness yet effectiveness of a wafting heat or aircon on speed 1. I am taking the bull by the horns and do it myself after watching the youtube videos. What I can't ascertain is how the resistor pack locates. Is there an electrical plug or does it slip in between metal contacts and what is the part number? There is a Europarts depot within easy reach so I won't have to order it online.

I changed ours, using the remove glovebox and then unscrew passenger airbag, which lifts out (having watched the you-tube)

Just bought the whole resistor unit assembly (was only about £5) and seemed to be a standard fitting for Audi A1s, polos etc, from memory it twists off (bit like jam jar lid), so bit of a turn and lifts out, there is a cable plug underneath, (in middle, nothing to do with holding unit in), so just disconnect, plug in the replacement and reassemble everything.

Think it took 10-15 minutes, but I did need to get a long handled screwdriver as the screws at back of glovebox were very tight and couldn’t undo them with standard screwdriver (the long handled one allows you to grip outside the glovebox hole to can get more pressure)

Very helpful. Did you need to disconnect the airbag or is the lead long enough to push it to one side? Did you have trouble lifting the airbag and plastic cover to gain access to resistor pack?

I have ordered and got if from my Skoda dealers. Just have to fit it. Is it easy to lift the airbag out? The videos do not make it clear as to what you have to lever on to raise the airbag.

If you try and lift the airbag by sliding something under the rim, will potentially leave marks on the dashboard around it, but that is slightly easier to move it that way.  Once it is up about 5mm it sort of un-wedges and comes out easily.

You can also push it up from underneath, and even sort of lever it upwards with a big screwdriver or flat side of large wood chisel.  You need to lever it from the back edge of the lower glovebox.

Or use a combination of both methods to initially wriggle it loose

I removed the top glove box but the air bag installation was not as shown in the youtube video. There were no 3 torx screws to remove to free the airbag prior to be prised  out and I could not see how to remove the airbag. I bottled it and booked it in to the local Skoda dealers. They have the updated engineering notes and manual on how to do it. At least I found out how to replace the light in the lower glove box as it sits on the top with a translucent lens to illuminate the glove box

Had the fitting done at a dealer, the same dealer I bought the part from. Cost £92 which I thought was worth the hassle free and I have a guarantee.

Yes sounds good ,sometimes the experts with their experience doing it all the time save a lot of trouble and strife.
