Traffic Cops BBC1 Now - Using Octy vRS!!!

Featured Replies

think they use vRS's in cambridgshire, went to look at a car forsale and it was ex police from there, but non in suffolk that ive seen, we tend to get mondeo st220's here!!!!

Surrey Police use 3 unmarked Octavia vRS all in silver.

I use the M23 a lot, and you always see one on there, and a silver 530d, plus they have a silver Evo 8.

Kent and Essex Police have V8 Range Rovers, nice fuel economy!

Kent Police have got loads of Octy RSs - think they were the first forces to order a substantial number. Had to crawl past one last night on the way home that was doing c. 70 mph on the M2.

Don't know where you got the point about Range Rovers - hardly ever seen one at all in East Kent

I travel up and down the M27/M3 every day and regularly see one of the Octy's..... funniest time was only a couple of weeks ago.

Some fool decided it was a good idea to come speeding up behind it at 90+mph then proceed to cling to its rear bumper!! Being that close you'd think he'd see the discreet lights in the rear window of the Octy.

I wouldn't say they are that discrete from behind. Is it the black or silver one you see ;)

Also what colour was your TDI estate as I'm fairly shure i used to see it on the way to work every day :)

It was blue, I used to work in Pompey, on the 9th floor of an office that over looked the M275. We spend time looking down at the various people the police had pulled over, particularly those who seem double peeved to realise they'd been caught by a 'Skoda' :D

Nowadays I venture up toWinchester every day so spend even more time on the M27 and with all of that I've seen a fair few of the marked and unmarked being used as intended.

To do with the octy vrs cop cars in yorkshire. Up here in west yorkshire we have a couple at least of these top class motors but they spend 1/2 the time in the garage with a smashed sump, but there not aloud to put a sump gaurd on because the police shouldnt be speeding over speed bumps?? WHY NOT surly this would save money?? (got the info from a police garge workshop)

That's ridiculous! I should have thought police pursuit cars should have sump guards as standard in case they need to cross any dodgy ground whilst chasing scallies.

Gents,

Down here in the West Midlands we have sump guards on our VRS's,

However this brings a new problem of its own, Apparently this lowrs the front end because of the extra weight so the sump is protected but the guards are used frequently and thus are repaired/replaced more often....

I'd have thought they would have uprated the suspension to combat this problem...but it is the police and they never seem to use common sense...:D

Marc

surely a guard is cheaper that some GIT getting away and killing some1 and cheaper than the engine going bang cuz theres no oil is it cuz of a smashed sump. Comman sence has gone out of the window.

Hey mate,

Very true, the only niggle we have of the vrs is the low ground clearance, this is where the volvo t5 s60 wins hands down unfortunatly...

Seeing as you mentioned it, if the pursuit gets to dangerous, in WM either the driver or control will abandon the pursuit anyway as a piece of metal isn't worth taking someones life for...

Cheers

Marc

Does that mean you are in the 'trade' then Marc?

I was on the K2 , but decided the job wasn't for me and left after a few years.

Bits of it I miss ,but on the whole I'm happier out than in.

Alex,

I know exactly where your coming from but paid far too much pension now to knock it on the head, if anything better came along, better paid/treated/easier etc i'd give it some serious thought...

Cheers

Marc

Thats something I heard a lot of , and I didn't want to find myself with 15 years in and the only thing that kept me going being the promise of a good pension in another 15 so I got out early.

On a good day it was the best job in the world but there were far too many days when it was just far too depressing and frustrating.

I'm glad I gave it a go but I'm equally glad I'm now working in IT with better pay and more civilised hours in a job when I can actually get stuff done.

Strangely I'm toying with the idea of applying to be a Special.

Alex,

We are going to get shot going on about non car stuff, but until someone shouts we can carry on :-)

Mate, before becoming a reg I was a special for three years and I loved eevery minute of it too, no paperwork, no stress, no fr dates, no files (you know what i'm on about)...so i'd say go for it, same uniform, card, powers...everything except the dosh (but you don't need to worry about that me thinks?)...if I can be of any help...

By the way I own a 2003 '03 reg silver octy vrs....just to keep cars in the message

Marc
