radio Interference

Featured Replies

I have a 53 plate Skoda Fabia 12v 1.2 Classic Estate

when I bought it it had a tape did, which I didnt want, so they said go get what you want and they will ffit it free of charge.

I did, got a nice cd/mp3 kenwood, the cd player is fine and so its the radio on am but on the mw, there is so much crackle, from the brkes, wipers and Iif I travel 30 miles from home I cant pick anything up. So I went to Halfords to get a booster to stop the electrical inference, it worked for a short time but still couldnt pick up mw away from home

so I fancied a new radio, asked mr blokie at halfords what the best mp3 player was for picking up mw and got this nice Sony unit, aiain fitted the booster, which removed it and still not picking up mw, and now getting interfernece from the brakes again.

I have been to my Skoda techinician and called the Skoda hotline on regular occurences to be told that its a knon prob for non-original radios to stuggle on the mw.

It is starting to annoy me as I tarvel regurally from the midlands to Liverpool to see the mighty Everton play and all the footie stations are on mw.

any ideas or pointers would be great

thanks

Pep

Sorry, cant offer any help, but basically any aftermarket radio struggles with reception in VAG cars, not only on MW but FM as well, even boosters dont help much. id try and get a OE CD player if you want radio reception rather than MP3 etc etc.

Get the lining taken down and make sure the arial is tightly screwed to the connecting wire and check that it's all tightly plugged together at the other end too.

Heard stories of things being crap because of this.

Not fitted an aftermarket in my furby yet... but a couple cars ago i had an seat ibiza MK1 which was a mixture of Fiat and VAG bits (and a wee bit of porsche thrown in too) and i fitted a kenwood head unit in it i could not get MW or LW on it when driving, only when parked up did i get any reception on MW or LW

If anyone is interested , someone is selling a Symphony single slot CD tuner on Ebay , brand new , for £185 plus p&p , just put 'skoda cd player' in the search box and you should find it , remember the stealers want £350 for the same unit....I'd have it away if I wasnt wanting wheels first!

:) The aerial has an amplifier built in, that requires a 12volt feed via a splitter unit and that sends the voltage down the coax. I had to buy one for our Fabia with a Kenwood head unit and it now works fine !
