Judder when braking

Featured Replies

My daughter's FII from 2009 has developed a judder / vibrations when braking. This happens when you brake light, but going for an emergency stop with the ABS kicking in there is no judder.

There is also no vibrating when I apply the handbrake, so I guess it is something at the front end.

The car pulls straight when braking.

In 2019 I changed the front discs and pads for Brembo ones and the rear drums and shoes. I did a search for this juddering and some suggestions were rust, disc run out, uneven wear and suspensions problems.

Following some advice I cleaned the wheel hub carrier, measured the discs - they are even looking at them with a gauge, the thichness / wear is the same. So I swapped them from side to side and greased the slide pins. The judder is still there.

The MOT in November gave an advisory for wearing but not dangerous bushings. Can this cause a judder when braking?

Has anyone had this on Fabia and got rid of it?

I had the same issue a year ago about 2,000 miles after I had Brembo discs and pads fitted to my F111 brakes (1.2 HTP).  Juddering when braking and especially bad when hot motorway driving which really shook the steering wheel. I had them changed for Pagid discs and pads which cured the issue completely.

Sometimes this issue can be the slide pins not moving smoothly or could be badly worn but as Phil886  suggests  it could be the discs, the only way really  to be sure is to borrow a dial gauge and try and see if there's any run out in the discs , I have also know this issue with loose wheel nuts /worn hub bearing/ loose carrier bolts loose caliper retaining bolts  all can be checked before spending big money

My daughter has got the F III system on the car.

I went especially for Brembo BECAUSE of the name an reputation. And I bought them from Eurocarparts, so probably or hopefully not a fake copy off ebay. I guess I do not have a waranty case though and most likely have chucked the receipt.

I was and still am really thinking down the line of suspension, but there is no give anywhere.

I had the saddles off and the pins were o.k. and freshly greased. The discs look pristine....

I went for Brembo too as they are the big name in braking and also bought from Eurocarparts. I took it back to the garage that serviced the car and fitted the Brembo bits and they could find no fault at all that may explain the juddering. We decided that as nothing had been found we would change the pads and discs for Pagid and see what happened. As I say this cured the problem immediately and permanently. Seems the Brembo pads/disc did just not suit my F111 brake set up. Easy fix and not too expensive as Eurocarparts seem to have a sale on every other day.

I have a identical issue with my Octavia 1.4 TSI 11 plate. I fitted Brembo front pads last year June 2020, with existing disc. After about 2k miles I started to get juddering on brake pedal, So I got Brembo disc fitted and the juddering went. But after 3k miles the juddering is back. When I hit the brakes hard, theres no judder and it stops dead. Judder is very noticeable at high speeds. Theres very little steering wheel shake but the car shakes in sync with the pedal. I'm going to remove the front pads/discs clean everything.  Never had judder before, just happened after fitting Brembo brake products.

I managed to find my receipt and went back to ECP. They were very good. The advice was to get a new set of discs and pads and return the old ones.

I went for a set of Pagid. The car is like new.

The old Brembo discs had very visible and impossible to remove black deposits in patches and did not look good. I also changed my wife's Nissan Note front discs and pads last week and her discs, apart from being worn down, looked nice and silvery.
