Advice Plez (Remap Octavia 3 4x4 150ps)

Featured Replies

Hi all!

I have a 150ps '16' Skoda Octavia 4x4 Estate with 74k on clock and a FSH and was looking at getting a remap... The garage states they can achieve 190bhp / 420Nm and an 8% increase in MPG...

I notice you can get a 180ps version of this car / engine / drive line from factory.

Are there any risks I need to be aware off before going for the remap? Can the Haldex / 4x4 system handle those numbers? Should I only remap inline with factory numbers? I still want reliability to be key and will not remap if it's obvious it will break something (of course I know all remaps are risky). I just want to be sure there were no differences from factory that enables the higher numbers other than a remap 🤷

Thanks in advance 👌

I have a 190 superb running a racingline map with 235bhp and 540nm. Has done 80k miles. Had a problem with haldex when I first brought it but that was before the map. Have now done 60k miles with new haldex plates and no problems. The figures you are talking from your 150remap will be online with the standard superb and all same driveline components so absolutely no problem

Thanks for the reply. What year is your Superb? So it had 190 from factory? That's a lot of Nm! I plan on towing the track car (trailer + car around 1800KG) so ideally fancied a bit more torque and with that hopefully some more fuel efficiency as I will be travelling long distance. An 8-10% increase in MPG would be great as i'm already getting 53.9mpg avg (not towing) now. Have you noticed any increase in MPG with your map or was it specifically for more power?

Ive had mine remapped. Mines front wheel drive. Personally i think the 4x4 version should be able to cope with the extra power and toque going through it.

I would use a well known company for when you get your car re mapped.

the main thing to do is to have it done somewhere reputable. A lot of places will just flash a generic map onto your car as 'it's the same as all the other cars we've had in'. But what works for one car, might not work the same for another.

I did have a DTUK box on my car, which was good initially, but then I ran into trouble with constant limp home mode. That shows both a generic map and a piggy back device isn't always the best. When it was working correctly, I had a noticeable increase in torque (you didn't notice a full car or a motorbike trailer) and it did return a bit of an improved MPG. Only thing was having an increase in available power did mean you were more inclined to bury your right foot. I know you've 4WD, but the usage power is only as good as your tyres. I did have potenza s001's on at the time of having the box on, which did lead to accidental wheelspin in the wet. I wasn't doing it deliberately, but you did need to be careful when leaving a damp junction as the torque lump from about 1.75k onwards just caused the TCS to bog the throttle down. Box off and wearing PS4's, it behaves well in all weathers.

Once all the covid shenanigans have been put to bed so we're not going to be in a never ending lockdown cycle, I do want to get mine remapped at Darkside developments. VAG group cars are their specialty.
