...instead of the standard springs on my 2016 1.4tsi combi?

You might have the following standard ride height rear springs:

5Q0511121AF (Standard Ride Height Octavia MK3 Estate Rear Springs

Wire Diameter: 11.25mm

Length: 341mm

Outer Diameter: 109mm

Weight: 1.75kg

Number of Coil Turns: 7.75

https://web.tecalliance.net/gkn/en/parts/1/87783/detail?query=5Q0511121AF&numberType=1&oe=5Q0511121AF&groups=188#@brc/search:Search%20by%20any%20number%205Q0511121AF;query:5Q0511121AF;groups:188;brands:1;page:0/detail:87783;brandId:1;articleNo:87783;query:5Q0511121AF;numberType:1;oe:5Q0511121AF;groups:188

To increase the rear ride height by 15mm change to the following 15mm increased ride height rear springs:

5Q0511121BE (15mm Increased Ride Height Octavia MK3 Estate Rear Springs)

Wire Diameter: 11.25mm

Length: 356mm

Outer Diameter: 107mm

Weight: 1.75kg

Number of Coil Turns: 7.75

https://web.tecalliance.net/gkn/en/parts/1/88024/detail?query=5Q0511121BE&numberType=1&oe=5Q0511121BE&groups=188#@brc/search:Search%20by%20any%20number%205Q0511121BE;query:5Q0511121BE;groups:188;brands:1;page:0/detail:88024;brandId:1;articleNo:88024;query:5Q0511121BE;numberType:1;oe:5Q0511121BE;groups:188

5Q0511121BE Suplex 30026

https://www.autodoc.co.uk/suplex/15518365

This is a very neat solution, as the specifications of the springs are identical, except for the 15mm increased uncompressed spring length of the increased ride height rear springs. The ride comfort will be exactly the same. You will now have 15mm more suspension travel. This could be useful if the standard suspension sometimes bottoms out, for example going over speed hump. Increased ride height isn't for everyone, because it raises the car's centre of gravity. However, SUVs are very popular and they also have a higher centre of gravity than standard road cars.

There's not much choice for 5Q0511121BE rear springs, although autodoc list Suplex 30026 that matches this OEM part number. Other brands are sometimes sold to replace more than one OEM number, so might not be a close match. Those one size fits all approach springs are best avoided if there's another alternative. Some brands hide the fact that they are using a one size fits all approach by listing just one OEM part number against each model number...but what they are doing is labelling the same spring using different model numbers....Caveat Emptor...as they say in Latin. These one size fits all brands, tend not to list the specification of each spring, such as wire thickness, length, outside diameter, etc.

There are 9 standard ride height Octavia MK3 rear springs listed on the Skoda online parts catalogue

In some countries, new car buyers have a 15mm increased ride height option. In other countries (particularly those countries with poor roads and lots of potholes), the 15mm increased ride height will come as standard. So +15mm ride height, standard ride height, and -15mm (lowered suspension) options are all perfectly normal on VW group cars.

It's easier to change rear springs than front springs, so do them first. If all goes well, repeat the process on the front...again using suitable springs.

The Scout springs appear to heavier duty and much longer than the +15mm increased ride height springs. So it might not be a good idea to use Scout springs on the standard car. Besides, +15mm should be enough for most owners who want a small increase in ride height.

In the UK, there is a lot less choice (and sometimes higher prices) for increased ride height springs compared to standard ride height springs, so do check availability first before making a decision to go for increased ride height springs.

To add to the above, 5Q0511121BD could be used instead of 5Q0511121BE

5Q0511121BD will give the same ride height as 5Q0511121BE but are about 5% softer, which would be ideal for the Octavia MK3 hatchback whereas the 5% harder 5Q0511121BE are better suited to the estate, or the hatchback with towbar. If you don't carry much weight in the estate, the hatchback version could also be used.

The 5Q0511121BD Lesjofors 4285742 +15mm increased ride height rear springs are currently available on autodoc for under £60 for two including postage to the UK. This compares to over £100 for a pair of 5Q0511121BE Suplex 30026 +15mm increased ride height rear springs.

Greetings to all from a new member in this community!

You Carlston are a real legend!

I tried to turn the internet upside down to find info about suitable rear springs and found very limited information until i found this post!

My 2017 Octavia vRS Estate 2.0 TDI 4x4 DSG (+DCC, so not -15mm or standard ride height, but in my understanding somewhere between them?) is sagging from rear end even from full gas tank and i was considering changing stiffer rear coil springs as i also tow sometimes trailers.

I think that 5Q0511121BE would be good for me as the scout spring might not fit to my car as it´s not estate? Other option i found would be "MAD V-199545" (an auxiliary coil spring inside the original spring), but this auxiliary spring might lift the ride height and overall feel too much...

Actually now on second thought i'm not sure will this 5Q0511121BE fit my car as it´s 2.0TDI 4x4 DSG + DCC...

5Q0511121BE is for a front wheel drive car, not a 4x4. You need to use 4x4 springs, if you have a 4x4.

You can use 4x4 Scout springs if you want 15mm increased ride height, compared to standard ride height springs.

The VRS 4x4 will probably have 15mm lowered ride height, ie. sports suspension.

You have three choices of rear Scout springs. They will all give you about the same unladen ride height. The difference is in the compression rate. The 13.00mm version is about 8% stiffer than the 12.50mm version, and the 12.75mm version is about 4% stiffer than the 12.50mm version. As you are towing, I would go for either the 12.75mm or 13.00mm version.

Wire Diameter 12.50mm, Weight 2.45kg

5Q0511115AL (from Octavia MK3 Scout)

These two springs appear identical and interchangeable. The MK2 springs are sometime cheaper than the MK3 springs.

Wire Diameter 12.75mm, Weight 2.6kg

5Q0511115AM (from Octavia MK3 Scout)

Again, ashtonshing information.

I found from some Skoda Info leaflet that DCC would drop -10mm from normal height.. Difficult.

So as a conclusion maybe Normal 4x4 springs would be enough "lift" to rear for me without Scouts extra height. Does transmission type matter for the springs?

My thoughts are that i could keep front as original, but to rear maybe those normal 4x4 springs would lift the rear for a little better posture? Are there many options as in "normal height 4x4" without lowering sport/Dcc springs or Scout extra height springs?

Normal driving situation is that i drive my car without passengers, full tank, about 30kg weight in the boot and towing is only few times per year.

I'm so thankful for your effort that i really don't find words good enough to describe your help and great information.

Normal 4x4 springs should be enough lift to the rear. Manual or automatic transmission usually makes a small difference to the front springs. It doesn't affect the rear springs.

Lesjofors 4295133 (OEM part number 5Q0511115H) rear springs. Standard ride height, 4x4, with towbar.

This LH variant seems to be pretty rare because i don´t find much information about these from the web...

i didn´t find any dimensions, length etc...

But if these two Lesjofors springs will do the job, i´ll go with those! Thanks! :)

Thanks for a really good information on this thread Carlston and others :)

I am also looking for new springs and shocks to my MY16 Scout with 2.0TDI 150hp equipped with 6spd manual gearbox. With my VIN TMBLJ7NEXG0128781, I was able to identify that in front I have G09 + L31 combination of springs and shocks, and in rear 1JB + 0YC.

I am happy how my front handles, so I think I will stay with the original spring hardness, but for the rear I think the original spring is too soft, rear is sagging already with minimal load. Propably will source the AN listed springs (SACHS 992 103), as my original spring is the softest of these options.

My question is about the shocks, have you anybody found good aftermarket solutions for the Scout suspension? I think the original rear shock is 5E0513029C or 5E0513029D, and the front shock is 5Q0413023GB.

OEM part number 1K0511115BH could be used instead of 5Q0511115H as they appear to be the same springs.

1K0511115BH is from the Octavia MK2, whereas 5Q0511115H is from the Octavia MK3.

There aren't many aftermarket shock absorbers sold to replace Scout shock absorbers.

Scout models use +15mm springs. Therefore you could use standard ride height shock absorbers, as +15mm isn't much for the standard shock absorbers to cope with.

Or use original Skoda Scout shock absorbers.

Thanks for the info,

I have now ordered the Sachs 992 103 springs, to get a bit more load capacity to the rear. I will also replace the rear shocks, I found oem shocks with reasonable price, so I will not try any aftermarket version. At first I will replace only the rear parts, as the front seems to be ok. I will ofcourse do the front as well, if it feels that it is not in pair with the rear after the new parts. The car has run a bit over 200K km so might be needed to the front also.

Depending a bit on the ride, I need to think if a 4-way alignment would be needed, as the ride height changes a bit (5mm difference in spring length). I have done it when purchased the car ca. 1,5 years a go and it is "perfect" now and was a good 100€ spent at the time. Thw winter tyres are not so precise what comes to the steering, so latest with summer tyres I will see the need for the alignment.

5mm difference in spring length is insignificant, bearing in mind that the same springs with the same OEM part numbers could vary by 10mm in length even if ordered from a Skoda dealer. Different batch, different factory, etc.

Also, the actual ride height will vary enormously depending on the load you are carrying...there will be much more than a 5mm difference in rear ride height between a lightly loaded car and a heavily loaded car.

For example, a car with just 1 or 2 front passenger may have the rear axle supporting 600kg...but a car with 2 or 3 rear passengers, all of their luggage, and maybe a caravan in tow could have the rear axle supporting 900kg...ie. a 50% increase. This is a big difference for the rear springs to cope with. The rear springs in a lightly loaded car could feel too hard, but when the car is fully loaded the same rear springs could feel too soft...such is the compromise of choosing suitable rear springs.

I ordered these

Sachs 992103 matches OEM part number 5Q0511115AN

https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/oem/5q0511115an?search=OEN+5Q0511115AN&supplier[0]=32

and was very pleased with Autodoc service. Springs are to the spec discussed above. I fitted them last week, following the guides that are available on Youtube , etc. Just search for golf mk7 or all track. I did the job with axle stands and a trolley jack, and it was reasonable easy to get it all back together.  I recommend clean all the bolt threads before disassembly to ease things up.

The ride height is pretty similar un-loaded, but huge improvement when loaded - no sag. Definitely firmer on the rear, but I can tolerate that. I think handling is a bit sharper too, but I will get 4 wheel alignment done again soon to check things are OK. I still haven't towed yet, but I'm very pleased so far. For just over £100 it's great value too.

Many thanks for all the advice.

Just as an update to my spring replacement last year: all good. Handling is great after 4 wheel alignment, sag has gone, and towing a caravan much improved. Brilliant advice on here as always. I’ll be keeping my Scout for a few more years now!

Hello,

just found this topic by googling. I bought Octavia MK3 2.0 TDI -2015 with DSG yesterday and I find the suspension sagging awfully. So much so that I suspect someone has at some point changed new springs that are not specced to Scout. Both rear and front are sitting much lower than should. Therefore I think it makes no sense to try to interprit the colour codes from existing springs.

So I just tried to buy stock Scout springs. But jesus, is it a complicated task for such a common car. Luckily I found this topic.

So all in all, I would be very happy if someone could tell which kind of springs and shocks I should buy for this very vehicle, what are the options? Is DSG with same front springs and shocks as the manual version mentioned some posts earlier?

Thanks!

What are the pr codes for your car for suspension? There should be this sticker in the boot area or in the service manual (huoltokirja) where all these pr codes are listed. With those pr codes you will find the correct oem numbers from this topic.

With the same answer, I can also confirm that my spring install was a success without need to replace the shocks. Car handles now much better with and without load, compared to the old stock spring. I haven't had any need for the 4-way alignment so far.

Found the sticker from service manual. It says in front I have G10+L31 shock absorbers and springs. This leads me to conclusion that at least in this case DSG and manual share the same springs BUT DSG has different shocks. G09 shocks are listed as 5Q0413023GB with length 49,6mm and G10 is 5Q0413031FS with length 54,6mm. So DSG has taller shocks?

Weirdly there was no info about rear shocks and springs but one would assume the same that you have will fit. I will choose the stiffest springs anyways. Would hate to have it sagging when towing trailer.

Thanks!

Answering to my own question. According to the description from one spare part page, that measurement is the diameter of the shock. So DSG seems to have sturdier shocks.

The only rear shock absorber listed on the Skoda parts catalogue for the Octavia MK3 Scout is 5E0513029C.

Kilen and Lesjofors are the same springs made in the same factory in Sweden.

It may be best to purchase genuine Skoda shock absorbers for the Scout rather than aftermarket ones, as you may have difficulty finding increased ride height aftermarket shock absorbers. This is because aftermarket shock absorbers mainly cater for the standard ride height market.

Thank you so much for this info! It seems there exists very little knowledge in internet about Scout suspension outside this forum, glad I found this thread.

Hello, dear Carlston! I have not met the best specialist in Skoda suspension issues on the Internet. In addition, you somehow magically know how to find the information that even official Skoda dealers do not give)) Thank you very much for your work and knowledge.
I want to ask for your help in solving my problem. I have a 2018 Octavia Scout, 2.0 TDI, 135kW, AWD. For some reason, 5Q0411105HS springs are installed in front, although for the Scout, as far as I understand, a package for bad roads should be installed, that is, springs 5Q0411105KM, 5Q0411105KN and 5Q0411105KP. I want to increase the ground clearance of my car.

Hence the questions:
- will any of the last 3 springs fit my car;
- do you have data on the characteristics (length, overall diameter and wire diameter) for these springs;
- is it possible to install the package for bad roads provided for Audi (plastic spacers) to increase the ground clearance on my car.
Thanks in advance for your reply.

5Q0411105HS looks like a Scout front spring, as it's considerably longer and heavier than many of the other front springs on the Octavia MK3.

There don't appear to be any aftermarket springs matching OEM part numbers 5Q0411105KM, 5Q0411105KN and 5Q0411105KP. However, on the chart above you can see that they correspond to build codes L33, L34, and L35, respectively.

Your build codes would confirm what type of suspension the car left the factory with. The chart below shows that build code 2UB = Rough-road design, and build code 2UF = Chassis with increased ride height.

2UA = Standard design
2UB = Rough-road design
2UC = Sports version
2UF = Chassis with increased ride height
