Connect Lite / Myskoda App Problem

Featured Replies

Even on my 2018 model The awful my Skoda app now communicates via wi-fi so I guess the data plugs have been superseded which is why they can be found cheap. Mine came from a vauxhall dealer with a VW franchise and is genuine part.

  • The advantage of the Connect Lite app is that it is free once you've bought the dataplug, while the My Skoda app required you to subscribe to the Remote Access service after the first year. If you don

  • Just ordered one of these:   https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-Volkswagen-DataPlug-for-app-usage-on-smartphone-VW-Data-Plug/264747012721?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m

  • Iphone?   from memory Privacy then Location Services then make sure it’s on for the app (alphabetical list).

Thanks for update Surrey! Bearing in mind that I am someone who is completely non savvy with smartphones, computers and the like, if I finally manage to establish a wifii connection believe my phone and the car (and believe me, I've tried! )  will/can that connection remain established when the car is parked up and locked?  The answer to that question is probably quite apparent to most, but not to me I'm afraid. Your last post seems to contradict the need for a dataplug with MySkoda?

Thanks for replying Sanqhar. Yes, I've noticed tha price variation too! So are you saying the car talks to the phone all the time by bluetooth (when in range) ?

That is my assumption.  It can't be by wifi as my car doesn't have it's own sim.

My phone is Android, when I switch the ignition on the phone connects to the car using bluetooth, this allows me to make calls using the touchscreen, the bluetooth also connects to the dataplug and they use bluetooth to transmit information between the car and the app. Your phone will then use it's mobile connection to send bits of data and the backup of your data to VAG. I run an app on my phone called Hotspot Automatic. When the phone connects to the car using bluetooth hotspot automatic  creates a wifi hotspot, and the car connects to the wifi hotspot so it can use the phones connection to the internet. This allows the red globe to change to white indicating the car is connected to the internet and allows me to get the traffic information on the navigation (expensive but I find the traffic useful).

The data plug and app still work fully even when I have no data, call time or messages left on my phone.

Thanks Tolpol, Sanqhar and Surrey

I can believe they would but it wouldn't do the backups which might be useful if you change phones, I expect there are settings that allow you to withold all the data from the app going to VAG

Since the last update, the mySkoda app is running like its on a ZX spectrum. Takes forever to update the info, I see some suggestions on the app store to delete it and the data and reinstall but I'd like to keep the historic data if possible. Anyone else tried this?
