Heated steering

Featured Replies

Hi all , I'm starting a new thread on this after some previous answers on an unrelated thread.

I noticed that my VRS built around 20th Dec 2020 does not have heated steering wheel. Where the button should be is blank. On the standard UK spec, even today it says leather steering wheel with temp controlled rim.

I contacted the dealer and they have asked Skoda UK for a an answer on this but the dealer said this had been discontinued at late build models for UK.

So if the spec says you get it on their standard spec as it does right now on the website . What is likely to happen here?

1) I get a new steering wheel installed

2) Sorry mate , heres a gift voucher for money off servicing

3) We have the right to change the spec and not tell you, **** off and enjoy

I'd be pushing for number 1.

I could never find the spec that said it had the heated steering wheel.

Skoda are a bit of a nightmare for this, which is why I always send them a copy of the current spec when I'm buying because I've been stung before.

For what its worth the spec when I ordered mine (in November) didn't mention it and the car doesn't have it. Not that I actually want it anyway, I never use the heated seats either

Heated seats are great, one of the few options that I added to my car!

Skoda do seem to change their model specs suddenly from country to country. Before buying my first Octavia 3 Elegance model the UK website showed a lefthand drive car in Elegance spec with a passenger seat which completely folded, which I thought was a handy feature. Of course my car when it arrived didn't have this on it, Skoda said that the seats on that model couldn't fold, only the SE model although the seats seem much the same other than the fabric on them. They did give me some money back for it though and the website images were changed soon afterwards!

mine was built on 14th dec , has heated steering wheel  , the spec and prices changed on the 21st dec

Mine built on the 23rd Dec. So i guess im onto nowt then as the brand can change spec without notice even though i ordered on 4th Dec.

Still though , the website car builder still has as a gen spec item.

What else changed 21st Dec out of interest?

@Greezy56 did you check AC settings if you perhaps have the option there?

Ohhh god! I'm crying! :D :D You made my evening! But I know how you feel. I jumped to new Octavia from a 17 year old Honda Accord with the highest tech being radio controls on the steering wheel.

Nothing other than the price as far as I can tell for the vRS. I did a car spec card when I ordered mine (18th) and again after the change and can’t see any difference. The disclaimer says about technical spec, but I see this more as an emissions based change rather than an advertised feature being fundamentally absent so if the heated steering wheel I missing when I eventually pick mine up I won’t be particularly happy (whether im likely to use it regularly or not is another matter!)

Mine was made on the 17th December and definitely doesn't have the heated wheel...

Today . look how the spec changed.

S badge , not RS badge?

So official no heated steering and not an option i can see.

Leather-wrapped multifunction sports steering wheel with "S" badge

But when i ordered and up until a day or so ago it was standard spec. Is this not covered under sales of goods act as not as described?

When did you collect the car? If it's within the past 30 days, you have a right to reject the car if it is not as described.

Between 30 days and 6 months, you still have the right to reject but it's a little more complicated.

Skoda won’t replace corroded crappy wheel centre inserts, so I think the contract small print get out clauses reserving the right to change, might not let the omission of what will now be an optional extra. The early MkIII VRS had Front Assist as standard and then suddenly didn’t.

Car delivered 6 days ago

Personally I would be pushing for 3 complimentary services or similar in compensation and use the money saved from that to maybe source a 2nd hand one when they come onto the breakers market

Hi all , how much would that option be on say a Superb or Kamiq? Maybe a couple of hundred?

Still listed as standard on the configuratior but that could lag behind I guess. Seen a couple of dealer reveals on YouTube without it though so wonder if they had a shortage of the right steering wheels or something (saw the same happen with a load of Leon’s built without gearshift paddles that Seat ended up discounting). Definitely worth complaining about though, and certainly worth at least a couple of services (if you didn’t already get a servicing pack chucked in).

Decide what you want then and tell them that you’re considering rejecting the car as it’s within the first 30 days. Make sure you put it in writing and address it to the franchise manager.

they will be very accommodating. The ball is in your court

Dealer has via Skoda UK offered a goodwill payment of £100. Thoughts?

Missing heated steering wheel wouldn't bother me. I would take take that 100. But that is just me. I certainly wouldn't return the car because of it.

To spec that part as an option on the Superb is £155 i think.

maybe you can suggest them this. But a Superb is one car class higher so it's a little bit more expensive.
