HELP needed Skoda fabia vrs 1.4 been sat 15 months

Featured Replies

Car was starting last week after new plugs and filter and come to the car this morning and it’s just cranking going to start but won’t plugs have fuel any suggestions 2011 Skoda fabia vrs 1.4 180bhp

Welcome to the forum.

Are you trying to start it with a fully charged battery?

  • Author

Yeah fully charged even connected to a van to try Jump it of the car was fine 2-3 days ago turned it off come back to it this morning and it’s going to start but doesn’t said the spark isn’t good enough or the fuel isn’t getting enough was a code stored for fuel pressure but it’s getting the correct fuel changed plugs changed fuel filter changed fuel pump still nothing car was sat for 15 months before started it couple of days ago

Is it your car that you parked up 15 months ago & was it running fine back then?

So is the 15 month old petrol sitting in there.

  How much in the tank?

?

How long was it started for 2-3 days ago and did it get moved / driven.

You are going to need to be sure the immobiliser is not an issue, & no main fuse blown.

?

Did you personally put in the spark plugs, and change the fuel filter and the Fuel Pump?

EDIT.

PS,

Have you looked in the airfilter box to see what is in there?

changed fuel pump

Never used it myself on a car with a supercharger, but very careful use of Easystart may prove if this is a fueling problem. This has previously assisted me in identifying fueling problems when a motor which won't run but has actually started after an initial short squirt in the inlet, and can then be made to continue running with short repeated squirts. "It's going to start but doesnt" could be an immobilizer issue as my understanding/experience is that immobilizer allow starting for a few seconds then cut out, but I would expect this to show on the dash. Has the fuel pressure code cleared and not returned after you changed the fuel pump.

I will be going back to the car tomorrow to check timing and check all the coils will post if any updates

It sounds to me like it's immobilised if you can crank it and it won't spark or inject fuel.

Was just going to comment what sepulchrave has , deffo immobiliser related could of forgot code for key there is videos of how to fix that issue

Were can I find the video please and I thought it would be immobiliser but with the spark plugs getting fuel and fuel pump working I thought that it was fine just a spark problem but coming to think of it it’s work a try with the video

Dude, the ECU will not inject the fuel if there's no spark, the pump may work but the engine would flood if it injects fuel without ignition. No spark = no fuel.

I don’t know if csr doesn’t spark I’m going to check that today I’m just guessing it can’t have a spark because every thing else seems good

They is a spark so I know immobiliser is okay spark plug new ones full of fuel

When the car has sat awhile with the doors closed are you hearing the fuel pump prime when you open the drivers door?

That is just opening the door, no key in the ignition.

To be fair the car is 20 miles away I have just left to drive back home after checking for a spark going to book in with local mechanic to see if they can figure it out

Although I am not familiar with the VRS, I have read that they are very susceptible to incorrect grade/gapped plugs, etc so are they correct in both these areas? Have you also changed the air filter and oil/filter? They may not stop it from firing up but after that long off the road, I would do them prior to driving anyway! To leave a car such as this standing, was asking for trouble, really and I would be more surprised to see it start and run well, rather then cause issues.

The OP says that the plugs, fuel filter and fuel pump were changed and the car was running,  and then air filter checked.

Old fuel in tank though. New fuel added, running for 1 hour.......

My first thought was lack of battery power and even still with jump leads from a van unless good jump leads and really a good nice turning over.

What is interesting was before the plugs and fuel filter and fuel pump was fitted were there attempts at starting and did it start

or was the first starting after these replacements were carried out.

Yeah, I missed the later comment on looking at the air filter. I agree with the battery comment, too. It always seems better having a good battery, to trying to jump start. Not the same animal, I know but I saw a cabbie trying to jump start a seven seater vehicle from an oldish Toyota Yaris. The Yaris most likely had a tiny-winy battery compared to the car it was trying to start and despite raving it up quite a bit, the bigger car just would not start. It was an auto, with electric doors, digital dash, etc. It Just didn't wanna know!

Just to be clear for everyone as the above needs clarification as you say "going to start", does it start then cut out within a second or so, or does it not even fire. I had a spare key cut off a photo but there is not a chip in it, just to ensure I can open the door if I lock my keys inside - if I put this uncoded key in the ignition the engines fires up but then shuts down within a second or 2 which is showing the immobiliser is doing its job.

I agree with this comment but a van should have easily enough cranking amperage for a petrol car as it takes considerably more to crank a diesel than a petrol and the op said he used a van

The car was running and starting good last week let it warm up and then the next day I come to the car and give it a service as I knew it would have needed it and a new fuel pump the car had very little fuel when I left the car but before the service I filled it up with shell v power the jump leads I use are the old heavy duty ones for cars lorries and busses never ever let me down even tried a new battery still no different the car when going to it after a day the first turn it’s like it goes to fire up then after the first turn there is nothing it just turns over
