Importing a Skoda

Featured Replies

I don't yet own a Skoda but am lining myself up to buy a new Octavia. Was wondering if anyone knows of any Skoda importers? Has anyone imported their car? Please reply and let me know how you got on and how much you saved.

Many thanks. :?:

I'm not sure if importing would save you much on a Skoda, as they're

pretty competively priced!

Oneswoop (http://www.carbusters.com/SearchResults.xsp?ps=ONESWOOP&m=SKODA&mo=OCTAVIA&o=any) have a range

of UK sourced Octavias with a range of savings, but not much more

than 1k off any of them. I think most dealers could probably do this kind

of deal anyway though...

The following link may be of use, it's a short (favourable) report by

someone who imported an Octavia using a broker called Gerry McVeigh.

Not sure how importing would affect the warranty or breakdown cover -

it all seems to be Europe-wide, so it shouldn't be a problem, but I could

imagine a few dealers getting fussy over it...

Hope that helps,

Rob.

Try www.snip-cars.co.uk, not importers but a broker sourcing UK cars from a franchised ealership in Essex somewhere. vRS quoted at

Nalbo,

My situation about 12 months ago; My Brother in Law is in the armed forces in Germany and qualifies for a tax-free vehicle (although he comes out in May this year). So after deciding I wanted a Skoda vRS I approached him about it and he agreed to use his yearly allowance.

The cost of the car was about 12.5k from Natocar (local supplier for FPO forces) for a factory standard vRS in red. Not a bad saving, but then there was the extras like registration in the UK, road tax plus the ferry cost for my Brother in Law to drive it back over to the UK. I also wanted Silver or Black and cruse control.

I think it was going to cost all in all just over

You will need to take into account that you will only get 2 year's warranty on an import rather than the 3 Skoda UK gives, and you will not get the 3 year's worth of Skoda Assistance which comes free with cars supplied by Skoda UK.

FWIW, a friend of mine was driven to despair recently over the delivery time for an imported Passat TDi. After waiting 8 months longer than forecast, because VW continually refused to quote a delivery date to the broker, he only got delivery after writing to his MP who passed the case on the EU Minister investigating anti-competitive practices.

There are a couple more brokers listed in our web links who specialise in discounted Skodas. Have a read of this thread too:

http://www.briskoda.net/phpBB2+viewtopic-t-90-highlight-0.html

Finally, perhaps someone can remember the name of nationally-known dealer who sells a range of high class car marques and can supply discounted Skodas from a dealer in (I think) Nottingham?

Yep, Snip are good but www.ukcarbroker.co.uk are brilliant. They will do you an RS for

I was looking at importers too. Found these chaps..

http://www.carimportuk.com

I emailed them but haven't got a response yet.

I also looked at http://www.skoda.co.uk for second hand deals - they've got some good(ish) deals, and they'de all be legit dealer sales.

If you import, are there any discounts to be had for "Thanks, I'll take 2 then please?"

Well that's that deposit put down on new vRS for 03 registration  , should be here second week in March. Black with Cruise & Parking sensors. Dealer ensured me I'd get all 4 mud flaps, a set of mats and a propper alloy spare, from the brochure i think that means he is stumping up for the front flaps and the extra alloy ?

Ended up buying from UK dealer, he wouldn't budge on the list price, not even when presented with showroom4cars quote. I therefore upped the amount I was prepared to accept PX, above what showroom had offered by a similar amount, and left him with it yesterday am. Phone rang late afternoon and I took the car out again this am for a couple of hours (for those in the NWest went round Angelzarke and Rivvi :D ), got back to dealer and did the deal. Have ended up putting in about

Well done Drpepper,

That's a good way of getting the dealer to discount the car. On paper it looks good for them as they will get full list price, but of course the difference with your upped px will be the same.

Apparently showroom4cars have a similar deal to a fleet company, with Skoda UK offering them discounts for selling a certain number of cars.

Which dealer did you go to? I am surprised that they did not offer any initial discount.

Mike

Riding & Co in Preston, can't fault them so far. I guess like you say it's swings and roundabouts, discount the car by

Good on you Dr Pepper,

I wise choice, can you tell me if Riding & Co had the new vRS Estate in yet, I spoke to them a few weeks ago & they said they we're getting one in at the end of January.

Mine vRS is in for a service in 2-3 weeks & wouldn't mind a blast out in one.

Ta Paul J (South Lake District) :D:D  :D

Excellent, yes the roads over Rivi are great, I live within 5mins of those roads, just great for the octy.

Good to have another northerner join the ranks!

Paul,

No sign of an estate version of the vRS at Ridings i'm afraid. They had just taken delivery of a new vRS hatch they are putting on demo from 03 reg. The 51 vRS I was test driving had just been taken in PX for an estate, though he didn't say if it was a 4x4 or the forthcoming vRS.

Thanks Dr Pepper,

I hope to see you around & have fun in your new motor.

Ps, I'm glad Ridings were ok, I'd of looked a T--T recomending them to you otherwise.

BMW Driver say ---- Now where did that Skoda go again!!!!![/quote:fd6e8cdcf2]

That reminds me, dunno if anyone would be interested in a 51 reg vRS. IIRC it had just over 5k on the clock and they were gonna stick it up at
