Electric tailgate problem

Hi everyone,

Today I had an issue with my electric boot. On the first press of the button on the trunk it couldn't open the door for some reason. There was a click like the lock got unlocked but couldn't lift the trunk.

On the second button press it opened but the left arm (?) or strut (?) gave some crackling noise. I haven't noticed it before so I'm not sure if it started today or not, but now this crackling noise is there each time I open or close the trunk.

I suppose I'll have to replace these in the near future. I was googling for some time trying to figure out which part could fit. I have a 2018 Superb MKIII hatchback pre-facelift. The part number I found is 3V0827851. There is also an A and a B variant (3V0827851A3V0827851B). What is the difference? Which one should I choose?

Also, on Kevinmajs picture I can see a different part number starting with 3V9.

On Ebay I was trying to find parts with 3V0827851 and I found these two struts coming in pair which could be fit in my car:

2x GAS SPRING TAILGATE L=633 145 HUB POWERLIFT FOR ŠKODA SUPERB III

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304995251911

2x Gasfeder Elektrischer Heckklappe Powerlift für Skoda Superb 3 3V3 Schräghecka

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203632467306

Can someone confirm that one of these will fit? Or help me with any info on what to look for and where? As I read it here I'm better off with aftermarket parts.

Thanks!

i need some of these for my 2017 skoda superb hatchback, but there is no number on them...i have checked and checked again in both sides, no numbers on either iof them.. any advice please??

  • They are plentiful on eBay for under £200 per strut. It’s far nicer to have the power tailgate IMO, would cost you over £200 to swap back to manual struts if you had to buy struts, ball joints, a boot

  • Maybe of use to someone but I've had both my struts replaced using my extended warranty in year 6. Would have cost over a grand apparently.

  • Hi guys, hope this helps. As mentioned already in this thread I bought my replacement struts on ebay for the same reasons stated. I spent around £240ish because those came with a two year guarantee.

I also have a bootlid problem on my '17  superb 3 estate. It began with not locking when closing, it just kept 'whirring', so when closing I would give it a 'helping' push down, when it was almost closed. Sometimes it would work ok, so was intermittent. Than the remote on the key fob, & the button on the console stopped working, all I get is a faint click. Now when opening & closing, it sometimes stops in a random position, & I have to press the button again. Sometimes when closing, its really slow, & stops halfway, & pressing the button it closses fast with some force! Sometimes I get beeps, but sometimes none.

I'm not sure if this is a wiring or programing problem, but I've booked it in with my local garage for an obd to see if any codes come up.

My symptoms were the tailgate stopping part way and beeping. The wiring where it flexes is susceptible to breaks particularly in cold weather where the wires stiffen and become more brittle. Mine threw OBD codes related to sensors etc. Given the intermittent nature of your issues, my first guess is a partially broken wire. I would wager that a lot of struts have been changed for simple wire breaks as this is part of the strut component. Much cheaper to fix the wires. I replaced with silicon wire which is much more flexible in cold conditions.

Thanks for that, once I get the codes from obd, (if any)I should know which side of loom, any wiring probs are shown & will strip down to investigate. (No way am I gonna get ripped of at a skoda dealership! -Last year I had a prob with the front assist radar sensor in the front grill going out of alignment, & was told only a main dealer could calibrate it, so booked it in, (thinking they could sort it, only to be told, when picking it up, that 'the sensor needed calibrating'- (which I already knew & asked for!) Plus I had to open an account, & make a further appointment to get it fixed! They charged me £97 for the 'diagnostic' & 6 weeks later was charged £700 for calibration! ...GUTTED!)

i got a new strut from ebay, didnt bother checking fault codes as it was obvious old strut was kaput, screeching from internal cogs and bulge on one side, skoda as usual lied and said it would need coding and both needed doing at a price of around £1300 plus vat....the one i got from a local seller on ebay cost £200 and works perfectly, didnt need coding and took about half hour...the only issue i had was nearly all on ebay are for estate cars and mine is a saloon...
