How often do you fill your water?

Featured Replies

Hi

I've noticed my water reservoir bottle running low every couple of weeks and am starting to think there's a leak somewhere. I noticed the last time I filled it, there was run-off from the left side and water on the chassis under the bottle. Does anyone else have this problem?

Cheers

I used to fill my Fabia bottle up every week (sometimes more!) in the winter months as it was pitifully small. Seemed to last a little bit longer in the summer, until the bugs season started :(

If you have xenon's you'll have a 5-litre tank, in which case you may well have a leak! 5-litre tank can be retrofitted if you don't - I think a couple of people have written guides on it (Andy Ellis?)

Are we talking screenwash or coolant? If its the later you may have a problem, my TDI never needs topping up from 1 service to the next. As for the screenwash 2.5l is pitifull! You can have a 5l bottle relatively easy. Think I wrote a guide a while back search the forum if no joy give us a shout.

I have xenons so its much bigger and lasts a lot longer. In the winter about once a week. This weather, once a month if that

I'm talking coolant sorry, the Skoda lady called it reservoir so thought that might make it more obvious. The washer bottle is fine and I use loads of that because the back roads I use alot, it sucks but you know the nice weather is coming when your screen is splattered by flies.

And when you work by the sea, its the BIGGEST dump from a seagull ever.

If its coolant loss, thats not good..... Worth checking all the rad pipework, etc.

Not the same engine, but my 1.8T has only had the coolant topped up once that I am aware of - when I noticed that the level had dropped by 1/2". You have a problem which needs investigating. Hopefully it will be something as simple as a loose hose clip.

I have Xenons and I've filled my washer bottle twice in the last 2 years.

Weird

I work on an industrial site with the local council rubbish ( sorry refuse ) dump

at one end of it ....... 20 miles inland ... bloody seagulls ......

almost a complete windscreen and bonnet recover job yesterday

cost me 3 quid at the jet wash on the way home :thumbdwn:

Coolant should never need topping up these days. The systems are pressurised, and should be completely watertight. Loss of coolant is down to either excessive engine temperature boiling it off, or a leak. Get it looked at.

Will be taking it in tomorrow morning and they're gonna have a look at it for me, will let you know the problem when I get back.

I took the car in for a check and the pressure cap is not locking properly. They also said that its spraying water on to the control box behind the bottle so they're gonna have to make sure it hasn't done anything else. On another note one of the guys took the car out for a spin because I said I was experiencing what I thought was alot of clutch slip and said it wasn't the clutch, it's a problem with my turbo. I now have to take it back next week and leave it there for a couple of days so they can see whether it's the turbo or turbo pipe that's the problem.

Does anyone know what age you have to be to qualify for a courtesy car because they say 25 but I'm hoping it's 21,

Cheers

I had a courtesy car frommy dealer ages ago, when I wasn't 25 yet. :)

That control box behind the coolant reservoir is the N75 / vacuum box. Should withstand a little bit of moisture.

Hope the turbo thing turns out to be OK too. :)

It'll be up to the individual dealer and their insurance policy. If they say it's 25 then it may be worth kicking up a fuss to see what they can do (as the car is in for warranty work) but their hands may be tied. You could always suggest that if they can't supply one, you could hire one and the dealer/Skoda could pick up the bill as it's a defect in their product causing you to be without a car......

Good idea I will try my best to cause a fuss and see how good their customer service really is.

Cheers

You will usually find you get alot further by not causing a fuss and just explain your situation politely.
