Blower only working on setting 4

Featured Replies

Hi all,

The blower on my Fabia Estate mk111 16 plate only works on setting 4.

Searching the internet it seems a common fault and it is down to the resister. I can find YouTube videos for older Fabia's and Seats but not for mk111 Fabia's.

Has anyone got any advice or step by step guides? The part itself looks quite cheap anything between £11 and £49 so would have a go at replacing it myself if not too difficult.

The car is out of warranty unfortunately.

Thanks in advance.

Dave.

Sorry not aware of a video for mk3.  Hopefully someone can find you one

But I did similar change on our Roomster, and part was nearer £6 from an online e-bay motor factor, the whole unit is about diameter of jam jar lid

If you haven't already done this, super easy to do.

Pull the glovebox down and have a look for the resistor, turn the resister anti-clockwise slightly and it will pop out of place.

Replace the resister, give the fan a test and do the reverse to put everything back in place.

Often the broken resistor is only a result of bearings with wear and tear. If you only replace the resistor, and the blower doesn't rotate smoothly due to a worn out bearing, the resistor will be defect again in a few weeks/months, due to the high current which is needed to rotate the blower. So before you exchange the resistor, first check the blowerbearing (does it make noise or not).

Had this on my first car (Fiesta) the resistors kept popping then eventually the fan failed and would squeal at you constantly when on! - This is good advice

Hi all sorry for the delay in replying and thanks for all the replies.

The car was due a service and mot just after posting so left it with the skoda garage to fix.

Very pricey as the part cost £51 and labour was £95 on top of the service and mot.

The good news was that the car passed its mot!!

Cheers all

Dave
