2017,Octavia 1.4 auto ,new battery required

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My Octavia battery has died partly induced by covid lack of use no doubt!

I want to replace it ,hopefully with a higher amperage battery or if that's problematic a correct replacement, prefererably Varta/Bosch Yuasa as I have had good results previously.

I am finding a lot of batteries are wrong terminal configuration(My positive terminal is on left front of battery,)but others are reversed.

Getting some crazy prices over £300 ,but feel much over a £100 is excessive.

I live in Worthing but local euro car parts are quoting silly numbers!

I used to work in the car trade but hoping someone can point me to a good source for the correct item?

Also instead a few posts on here saying a new battery may need software update?

Many thanks dave

Not a software update but a coding change to the battery management module - especially as you're planning on fitting a battery with higher Ah rating.

I also have a 1.4TSI and when my battery needs replacing I'm going to fit a Varta E39 Silver Dynamic AGM battery (096AGM).

£300 + is about the right price for an AGM battery. As above will require coding when replaced. Are you positive, excuse the pun, your +ve terminal is on the left. Normally the -ve terminal is nearest the bulkhead when fitted.

See  Tayna all of these Varta Start/Stop batteries are under £200 inc VAT

I've used Tayna for batteries for both my previous 2 cars and been happy with their service.

Got my missis a yuasa battery from ebay ,next day delivery from a good company saved a fortune ,have a look plenty of bosch and varta for sale .

I'm afraid times have moved on with all this modern start stop stuff.

The new AGM batteries are expensive.

And as above, it will need coding in if you want it to last again.

Thankfully my 1.4 TSI MK2 doesn't have Start-Stop so the original battery lasted 8 years and a new Varta with higher capacity just cost me 80€ with express delivery included.

Thank s for your input.

Decided to get local euro skoda dealer involved, they said battery should be in by Tuesday.

No choice, just whatever brand they come up with? Sounds pants to me, what happened to customer service?

Now Wednesday still no call.

If I replace battery with same amp capacity will it still need coding?

If the battery is the same type (EFB or AGM) then all you should change is the serial number (just change one digit, the actual number is unimportant).

Just had a new AGM 096 fitted instead the EFB one supplied by Skoda, fitted by Halfords at £184 fitted at dealer or £159 On its own, you fit,

Skoda do NOT supply an AGM although they said they could, but they had fitted an EFB instead so I had this removed by Halfords and took it back to Skoda who then said they did not do a AGM so had fitted the standard Economy EFB. I asked if it would impact on the warranty or not. They said it would not as it was the same as changing tyres from that factory fitted. So if your dealer cannot supply an AGM cancel the order and go to Halfords!

By the way Skoda dealer said the EFB Economy battery from Skoda should have been £215 fitted but they priced matched Halfords, so they price matched higher quality? battery with a lower? class of battery. Or you would pay the same but not get what you asked for.

Hope that makes sense :mmm:

Thank you for that,I called them (as they could nt be bothered)they said the battery was now in and i asked what make he said EFF and seemed clueless as to what I was on about when I questioned on AGM !

Did your car need  re coding?

I hope that wasn't the service manager you were having the conversation with!

Skoda can only supply an EFB and an economy version at that. Halfords changed the serial number and then cleared a large number of light faults on the dash. Once they were cleared no problems. Oh, Skoda EFB has a 2 year warranty and Halfords has a 5 year warranty. No brainer in my view,

I have already booked with Halfords now, will cancel the  euro Skoda  lot,rip off!

As you say, correct battery, five year warranty and much as I m not keen on Halfords they win this one!

Halfords fitted correct new battery £184 fitted and coded, I was expecting a £25fitting charge, result!

Thanks for all input👍
