(the ability to do work on minimum power) My first thing is to say hello to all those knowledgeable types out there! second is to pick your brains - my Fabia 1.4 8v is tricked out to look a bit more sporty than it really is; I actually drive very sedate style, yet my ARB broke at 20k and 4 yrs old, also, - due to short trips? - head gasket contamination in expansion tank has led to new gasket @ same mileage - this can't be very common? my former favorit; before Felicia, had gasket blow in warranty @ 28k! Is 1.4 8v still made? was it old Skoda engine?

AFAIK, yes, the 1.4 8v (MPI) was an engine made by Skoda, and is relatively old technology. Don't think you can get it anymore, has been replaced by the 1.2 unit...
