Infotainment on startup has funny time

Featured Replies

Greetings all,

On my 2015 Octavia VRS diesel hatchback, my infotainment system has a frustrating, intermitant issue.

At the moment, it only happenes some mornings, but not every morning. It does not appear to be temperature sensitive.

Ordinarily, I have it programmed to the radio in the morning. On start up, or say 200m down the road, the infotainment decideds to change station, dab to fm  and various other functions but it is radio based. After about 30 seconds of dancing around between various options, settles on a station that I do not want to listen to (Grrrrr). It beeps as if the screen is pressed whiekl going through different stations. I can't even change the radio station from the steering wheel controls.

If I turn the ignition on and it is on something else (such as car or phone), it also does the same dancing around, through theose menus.

During the dancing around time, I cannot use the screen. After that dancing around, I cannot use the screen for several minutes. Turning off the ignition and/or radio and back on, is fruitless.

Could anyone direct me as to things that I need to look at, check or do please.

Looking forward to some wisdom, with much appreciation in advance.

Many Thanks.

Happy Driver

Mine does it exactly the same. Just don't have it on phone when you start off. I called my local chinese the other morning at 6 and couldn't stop it dialing until I used the steering wheel control. I bought my car in 2016 as nearly new and it's pretty much done it all the time in the cold weather. It's fine come spring onward.

Mine does something similar, though i put it down to wet weather.

Seen posts on here regarding issues with moisture getting in the touchscreen. I also   know a colleague at work had his screen replaced under warranty on a 2015 car for very similar issues that only began to occur in winter.

You could change the screen which is plug and play but certainly not cheap. I suspect you have MIB1 on that year car. The screen is just a screen and the unit in  the glovebox is the main control centre so to speak.

Earlier MIB1 systems do tend to suffer from screen moisture issues; might I suggest getting a Silica Car drying bag to see whether excess moisture can be mopped up first before going down the line of getting a new screen?

From a post in 2015.

"hi i have a octy 3 elegance has same thing my sort of fix is to go into settings and turn off the setting that lights up the screen when it senses something near it that helps the other is  turn on anoloque time display when turned off and when it does this tuen it off and time will be displayed which is lighting up the screen and  warming it up for 5to10 mins depending on how cold n damp it is and when you turn it on hey presto all back to normal with out it doing your head in  changing and re tuning your stations"

worth a try...
