Offside number plate light not working.

Featured Replies

Warning light on dash appeared today halfway through my day. Came home to find the offside lamp had gone out. Changed bulb, still not working. Switch lamp holders, offside holder works in near side wiring. So then bridged the near side live to the offside and the bulb illuminated??

so it must be the wiring.

stumped where to look next. I’d be super grateful if anyone could give me any pointers. Also do I have to use vcds to clear the dash error light?

im sure it can’t be a fuse as the near side is fine.

 Thanks

will there be a fuse for it?

I’ve been through the manual and there’s only one fuse.
can’t be that as the near side one is working.

thanks anyway

Have a look at the wiring where it goes in to the tailgate and be sure nothing has cracked/broken. Go through all bulbs to see if anything else has blown or stopped working, such as brake lights, etc. You might then need to use an electrical fault finder, the ones like a needle, where you earth the end and poke the pointy bit either on to a piece of live connection or through a wire, to test it.

Whilst bridged, did the dash light go out or stay on? I am surprised to so the numberplate bulbs actually show up as a fault in any case.

Thanks for the reply,

dash light stayed on.

will take the inner boot lid trim off at the weekend to see if there are any obvious breaks.

 Thanks again

Each lamp has it's own power feed from the onboard supply control unit.

It's the same feed that powers the side lights on the respective side of the vehicle.

Are the O/S side lights working ?

Thanks, all the vehicles lights are good except this number plate light.

tested the leads today just to rule out the lamp holder connector.

it’s looking more like a broken wire between inside the boot and fuse board.

stupid car.

well 2 options......

Find the break OR

just splice the feed off the N/S to the O/S.

PS there is a BLUE connector / coupling station on inside of the boot, left side behind trim....the connections come through there, the other place it "could" be broken is inside the rubber boot between the door and the body, if there is power at the coupling station, then the break is in the rubber boot.

I bridged a cable from the working lamp yesterday and yes, it illuminated but the dash light stayed on.

ive got an issue with a speedo needle not illuminating (separate issue) and my rear wiper is only wiping once instead of intermittent.
so I think I’ll go to my Skoda specialist.

thank you so much for your help though!

The wiper motor feeds also come through that coupler I mentioned.

Sounds like the coupler to the boot has been damaged, to me.

With the speedo needle, is it just the bulb? Could THAT actually be what is causing the dash light to come on, rather then the numberplate one?
