Which engine type does you Fabia have, and how many miles or kilometres has the car done?

When was the oil and oil filter last replaced?

@Wino 1.2 htp 2012 .. 300k km

I have this problem for the last 6 months

The problem still happen even after  changing oil and oil filter

Try the cheaper things like oil pressure switch and maybe oil pump, but I should think after that distance the engine may just be worn out. :crying:

@Wino thnx . i ll start with the oil pressure switch

+ I think that too 😢 .. ill try to change the whole engine by summer ..

The main bearings are worn out and are not holding the oil film, I'm surprised you can't hear the rumble at lower RPM.

More likely to be a pick up pipe/strainer problem given the symptoms, worn main bearings are not going to lose pressure dramatically under acceleration after gentle braking.

Definitely check that the correct filter is fitted, try replacing the oil pressure switch and then inspect/replace the oil pump paying particular attention to the pick up pipe & gauze strainer.

@sepulchrave thnx for your replay .. but i don't hear any rumble at low rpm.

When i drive at the speed of 100km/h even for long distances the light don't show up .

But if i drive at 120km/h even for a short distance then break and downshift to accelerate again the the light show up

Im so confused ..

@J.R. thank you .. ill try and hopefully its get fixed .

I guess the oil gets a bit hotter at the higher speed, so it gets thinner and more difficult for the pump to keep enough pressure.

Which oil specification are you using?

@Wino i used to use liqui moly 5w40 then i switched to 10w40 .. do you think i should go back to 5w40 or its to light for an old  engine ?

Ps : i haved no troubles when i used to use 5w40

5w40 fully synthetic is probably better than 10w40, I think.

Road speed is irrelevant, engine RPM and oil temperature are the only two factors affecting oil pressure in this case.

If you let the engine idle when it's hot does the oil light come on?

Oil pressure isn't monitored below 1500rpm.

  • Author

@sepulchrave no its come on only after downshifting from high rpm

  • Author

@Wino thnx ill try to go back to 5w40 and see if something changes

Ok, go with J.R. suggestion and check the pickup is clean and clear.

Modern oil pumps are superb compared to the days of X/flow Fords etc but on the other hand modren oils are very thin resulting in on the face of it crazy measures like not monitoring under 1500 rpm which does actually make sense when you think about it.

A change to the thinner oil might actually be a quick and crude method of diagnosing the issue if it makes any change, if the problem gets worse the Sepulchraves suggestion of bearing wear (or a knackered pump) is most likely, if it improves but is still present then it could be a blocked strainer.

A few posts back he said he had no problems when using 5w40, so reverting to that may be all that's needed.

As I think sepulchrave once pointed out, 5w40 is generally fully synthetic and 10w40 generally semi-synthetic.

In my opinion that means the 5w40 is likely to offer better properties generally, only really being slightly thinner at cold temperatures than the 10w40.

Probably a good idea to pick a 5w40 that also meets VW 502 00 specification over one that doesn't.

What country are you in @benkadjimi?

@Wino@Wino im from algeria

yes i think the same .. ill give a try to the 5w40 again and change oil pressure sensor and see

@J.R. thnx bro ill give it a try and see

I have been lead to believe that incorrect grade and lack of oil service schedule, is one of the worse things to do to these (Or any) cars. Personally, I would get the new oil and filter sorted ASAP, then start diagnosing!

Additionally, I remember hearing a few years back, of certain issues regarding people leaving one of the o-ring oil seals inside the filter housing and then fitting a new filter with another new seal, meaning there were issues with the incorrectly left behind o-ring. Can anyone enlighten me/us as to what variants this happened to or if it is universal, across the range etc and what the issue it caused was? I seam to think it  may well have been an oil light warning issue!
