Felicia mpi hesitation , please help .

Featured Replies

Hi all .

I have a prob with my v plate Felicia in that it hesitates / holds back under hesitation . It is most obvious between 2 and 3000 revs which is normal driving speeds and you have to change down to get it to go . You can also feel it under hard acceleration .

I have changed the exhaust as this had a loose front baffle and while i was at it fitted a cat saved from a low mileage Favorit that i scrapped . I have also fitted a second hand thermostat housing with temp sensor , crank sensor and the sensor that sits on the inlet manifold behind the throttle body ( not sure of the name for this one ) .

I have cleaned everything with carb cleaner and checked for leaks and split hoses etc but still the prob remains ! .

Help as i'm getting p****d off with it now .

It also has a noisy timing chain , should i worry about this ? .

Any help much appreciated .

Steve

Chances are the second hand thermo stat and or sensor are faulty. Id fit some new ones.

Failing that it could be a throttle body (around £300)

Thanks for the advice . It does get up to temperature ok now where as before the temp needle never really got off the stop pin so i think the thermostat is ok . I guess the temp sensor could be faulty but that would be bad luck to get another faulty one surely . I can get a throttle body for

Temp sensors are very common, and most running faults cn be attributed to them.

:) I always start with the basics first....change the spark plugs, make sure the valve clearances are correct, and also change the fuel filter which is usually neglected either because it's forgotten about or because it's a right pain to change! Every Felicia fuel filter I've replaced has been blocked up to the extent that I couldn't blow through it.

Only then should you start delving into the more complex stuff.

Hello did you get this problem sorted as I am having the same problem with mine

I have had a similar problem but between 3-4000 rpm. The problem was the map sensor having corrosion on the connection. Cleaned it with contact cleaner and is much better.

I have more or less cured it by fitting a new fuel filter ( pig to get at so probably don't get changed often ) although there is still some slight hesitation when flooring it but nowhere near as bad as it was . Still suffering with eratic tickover though and starting problems when the engine is hot but living with it for now .

Hello would it be easy to fit some fuel tube in place of the filter once it is removed then move the filter to the front under the bonnet.

and are the filters a specialist part or will any filter work.

Thank you

wayne, when you hesitation would say it was missing or jumping ?????

Hi

its like its holding back or no fuel is getting through but when you add more throttle it picks up again this was mostly at slow speeds and revs.

then the other day it got a lot worse when you put more throttle on it would pick up then die again you ended up kangarooing down the road and it was the same at all speeds it was a struggle to get up to 50mph.

I had a look under the bonnet pulled all the leads of the sensors and used some wd40 kind of spray as some of the connectors were a bit rusty then cleaned them.

then I had a look at the crank sensor after reading a few threads about them getting dirty when I took it out it was black rotten coated in about 2-3mm of what looked like soot there was also a few scrapes and dings in it as if something had caught it a few times .put it back in after cleaning it then went for a drive to see if it was any different and to my amazement it was a lot better there is still a tiny bit of hesitation at low revs but hardly noticeable but when you put your foot down it takes off now.

So I am not sure if it was the crank sensor or a combination of other things that helped but I'm happy now:thumbup:

thanks to all the good advice on here
