Tell me about it

Ba***rds.  One of the joys of owning a car I'm afraid.

If it's any consolation, the damage looks worse than it is. Depending on how bad that scratch is, the most expensive part may well be a new wheel arch trim. ( you won't believe how much they charge for that thin piece of plastic moulding). Hard to tell from photos but the repairer may be able to pull / fill the existing wing, the bumper's not worth talking about, they'll probably not charge for it.

If you can find a decent repairer and say you'll pay cash, it might cost less than your insurance excess to put right.  It's a bugger tho.

Lesson learned. Add a motion sensor dash cam to your Christmas list. That said, living in London, the dashcam might get knicked

I doubt it, the panel is creased so will need replacing

A bus hit our parked Kia Picanto about 10 years ago and the front wing damage was £500 so we claimed on the insurance as the driver didn't stop and denied causing the damage even though my wife was sitting in the car at the time of the incident.

A new wing is the easy option for the repair man.  But it should be saveable (is that a word?)

The black trim is fine. That's what it's there for. On previous car, my black rear bumper cleaned up as new when the rear panel was re=painted.

As above, should be within your XS payment.

I hope so, will get it down tomorrow for a quote. Damage extends to the front panel as well as the wing though so I think I may be unlucky, or unluckier still given that I was unlucky to have this happen in the first place

Unfortunately it goes with owning a car.

I have 2 dings, admittedly not dents like that, from people opening doors into mine.  At one point in my life I would be livid, now I just accept it and move on.

Absolutely, probably quicker to unbolt and attach a new wing, salvageable is the word you were looking for.

I feel your pain, in fact I have had your sort of pain early last year. Came out to my car in our private off road car park to find it had been rammed on the front offside into the fence I park next to. The bill, £5.5k. If you are anything like me, you will want to just kill the person who hit your pride and joy, if you could find them. I did not calm down for at least 2 weeks afterwards, as I also did not find the culprit. The heavy punchbag I use for some training at home, came in very useful to get rid of some of the anger! Hope you get a good repair soon and I know over time, you will feel normal again.

******s, I hate stuff like that, not just because they've driven off, but also because their driving is so  bad that they caused it in the first place !!

Won't add much to the job if anything. Saves on labour. If they do that then make sure the gap is even. In my experience it's the small indi repairers who're better at this than the dedicated centres the popular insurers use.

Sorry to hear of that. It saddens me that people do that and just drive off !! PITA.

I would be trawling the net already and trying to find a wing in the correct colour. These parts are mostly just bolt on affairs, so I would see a DIY repair as a good option and save the insurance claim.

Got a quote inbound, should have it by monday, will pit it against the insurance excess and decide from there
