I like the various clever compartments in the MK4 (i.e.: for hazard triangle, brush/Umbrella in door, etc.); however, there is one which is puzzling me.

 

In the glove box, there is a "slot" that seems designed for something but it is empty. I cannot find any reference in the manual to it.

does anyone know what accessories/pn could go there or what it should be used for?

 

And talking of little accessories, should the car come with one or two umbrellas as standard?

no idea what its meant to be for, and 1 unbrella but i nicked another when they lent me a car so i had 1 in each door 😂😂

I’m pretty sure this is legacy component architecture from the Mk3 where they had SD card readers in that spot. And even earlier than that there was a CD player in the space with the SD cards too, but that got phased out a while ago to leave a couple of SD card readers. 
Nothing to do with the MK4, I don’t think. 

Does anyone know what is this hole for? Is it a went for cold air intake when you switch on the cooling for the glove box?

correct you have a dial underneath for i think fan speed
