Swap rear brakes from drum brakes to disc brakes (F1 1.4 MPI)

Featured Replies

Hi, I have problems with drum brakes, so Im thinking about swaping drum brakes to disc brakes.

1) I found rear axle from Golf 4 with disc brakes for good price. Will it fit if I swap my rear axle from fabia, to that golf 4 axle?

2) If no, will even calipers or other components can be used on my fabia axle? (Axles doesnt will be changed, only components will be taken from golf 4 axle and swaped to fabia axle)

3) If that golf 4 axle will be unusable, what components I would buy/find to make this swap real?

Thanks for answering :)
(Sorry for my poor english)

Golf axle is different and will not fit.

Handbrake cables are different and will not fit.

Rear discs are not better than drums on slow cars, just fix the drums, parts are cheaper than the mess you'll make trying to do the swap.

Learn to navigate around one of the ETKA clone sites like 7-zap.com, and you will be able to compare part numbers of items from various VW-group models to see interchangeable items (identical part numbers).

Polo 9N is the VW with most parts overlap to Fabia Mk1; for Seat it's the Ibiza of the same time period, I think.

Here are some links to Polo 9N (2003 in this example) and Fabia (2005)

Group Parts Polo/Derby/Vento-IND (PO) [EUROPA 2003 year] (7zap.com)

Group Parts Fabia (FAB) [EUROPA 2005 year] (7zap.com)

I guess they changed the rear brakes on the Fabia's at some stage, because my Fabia has discs brakes on the rear.

Some did have rear discs.

I only realised it had discs on the rear when I had to have new discs and pads done for mot about two years ago, I hadn't really noticed as I just assumed it was drum on the rear brakes. Not very observant of me
