CD Player?

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I have ordered but not yet received a Superb Estate. Nowhere in the blurb is any mention of a cd player, and I'm not expecting one.

But ... the Carwow review shows what looks awfully like a cd player in the glove box. Anyone know what this is please? Thanks.

Have you ordered brand new or used?

That looks exactly like the MIB2.5 unit fitted to my 2018 which has a SIM card slot, two sd card slots and a dvd/cd player in plus a separate usb under the head unit.

I believe the current models have done away with a lot of that and only have the usb but I could be wrong.

It's brand new. Just surprised to see it in a review of the 2021 model.  I was planning on using a portable cd player and connecting via usb.

Getting a compatible cd player looks a bit fraught! Think I'll go with an sd card reader via usb!

I use that all the time to watch stuff. Not very often to play CD's.... Currently on the last season of Blakes 7 !

I have the 2021 MY SEL.

1) there is no CD  player, nor SD card slots in the glovebox it’s been replaced with a hard drive nav system, updated over the air

2) the removable torch in the boot has also gone and

3) the washer bottle cap is now a standard type of cap, not the fancy funnel.

added are a micro usb c in the front of the gear lever, this is like the cigarette lighter socket with it, permanently on, and a standard usb in the centre cubby box

there is also a cigarette lighter socket in the rear passenger centre box and in the boot

What I want to do is copy cd's to an external ssd and then connect that via the car's usb. Will that work with Bolero? Or will I need to convert the audio files to mp3's?

Generally if you copy the CDs the sofware you use will convert to MP3.  The standard setting are usually good for most people however you can raise the bitrate of the files (at the copying stage) but this has the knock on affect of lager file size.  If using an ssd or even a large sd that shouldnt be an issue.  There are other file formats to choose from too (like flac) that offer a better sound quality.  They are known as lossless and the idea is they are able to store more information for a given file size.

Someone more knowledgable than me will be able to say what file formats are compatible.  You can then decide how much space you want to take up compared to the sound quality you require.

Thanks very much, that's really helpful.

The Carwow review is hugely misleading as usual from them. The car in the video is a 2020 model and not a 2021. If they spent less time trying to make a knock off low budget comedy show and more time confirming the spec of the cars they test then they would know that 🙄

The 2021 cars all have the MIB3 with no CD or SD inputs and all USB-C. The 2020 cars (other than the iV I’m lead to believe and some interlopers as the dates never quite line up in my experience of Skoda model years) have the MIB2.5 with SD slots and USB inputs.

Yes, it does seem that they knowingly misrepresented that particular car. But hey -  what's truth and accuracy compared with a few cheap laughs!

The manual! Excellent!

Thanks.

The hard drive is also there on the previous MIB1(non-SSD), MIB2 and MIB2.5 units.

Shirley the hard drive is only on the Columbus units? All others have only storage for firmware etc.

"Don't call me Shirley"!

yes, only the Columbus units feature a HDD.

my point being that a HDD existed in the glovebox units along side the cd player, sd-card and sim slots.
now it appears that with the facelift models, all that is gone!  which is a shame.

Thread resurrection!

I picked up a 2022 Superb Sportline demonstrator last week and noticed there's no CD player either. I don't need it but wish there was a USB / SD input. Is there?

On another thing, is there a way to remove the blanking plate they've used to cover where the CD player would have sat? I was thinking it would make a good spot to store small items rather than have them just rolling around in the glovebox or console bin.

Also, great car! a bit numb coming out of a Clio 3 RS but i'm enjoying the quiet commute and it's ability to follow traffic without the 3 pedal shuffle. Took it up a few curvy roads and the 4x4 is very sure-footed in spite of the size. Miss the drama though. Even on sports the car is quite soft and plush, but that's expected of a big touring wagon.

Should be an SD slot in the glovebox unit. That's what's behind the "blanking plate", the main unit. If you take the cover off you'll be into the guts with circuit boards etc.

There should be a USB in the centre console that should work for music.

Yep there's an USB-a port in front of the drive stick (huge for something that shifts itself and has paddle shifts). Makes it needlessly complicated to put the phone onto the wireless charging cubby.

Also found there's a normal USB port in the console bin and it is a data connection (the phone connects up when i plug it in). I'll try plugging in a usb stick and see if it works, but actually really only just use my phone and youtube music anyway...
