Glow plug light flashing

Featured Replies

I had the tracking done today at Kwik-Fit and after a little trouble getting the engine started (I already know the solanoid is faulty, has been for a while) the kwik-fit mechanic rocked the car back and forth in 2nd gear and the engine fired up... after doing all this I started getting the flashing glow plug light the same as mitzyboy and skodataxi.

I can tell you this much...

All exterior lights work as normal (sidelights, headlights, indicators, hazards, reversing lights and brake lights)

before anyone says what everyone's said already (brake light switch) the brake lights are being switched on and off by the brake pedal as sexpected with no problems, so it must be something else.

Now here's the annoyingly unhelpful thing that only serves to confuse me... from the Skoda Octavia Owners Manual and I quote... "If the warning light flashes when driving, there is a fault in the system." (page 72 on the subject of "Glow plug warning light")

Does anybody have any other ideas that don't involve brakes?

On a "can't do any harm, and is cheap" argument, check oil, water, PAS and brake fluid levels?

they were all fine when I checked last week but I'll check again tomorrow when I can see properly, thanks Ken

Must be something about Mk1's at the moment mine has just done the same on the (19/12/15) glowplug light flashing and Engine Workshop on the display (L&K Clocks retro fitted) car did go into limp mode when it hapened switched off and restarted and drove fine but still flashing glowplug light and engine workshop on display. All brake lights are working on mine too.

Anybody got any more info on this? My Fabia Monte Carlo has glow plug light flashing. Break lights all working. Car does not appear to be restricted, just annoying flashing coil light. Could this suggest something more sinister?

Thanks in advance. Anybody in Cumbria have the technology for diagnostic? Cheers

Only way to diagnose is getting it plugged in to vcds if brake lights are working.

You could start by not posting randomly in sub-fora for cars that are not Fabia 2s?

Apologies Keith. I just wanted some help I didn't realise this was not the correct forum. Thanks for feedback

I have the flashing coil. Read elsewhere it could be EGR but then read this and checked my brake lights - nothing. Many thanks!

Ive had it too - brake light switch was knackered.
