Looking for advice

Featured Replies

Hi Skoda fans.

Straight to the point. Recently i was driving my Skoda Octavia Mk I(1.9 TDI) on the high way and suddenly felt like car doesnt have power, still lifting but very week, and towards hill/mountain loosing speed(all most feels like turbo left the building. :D). After stopping and turning the engine off and on.......everything seems to work fine, till it happened again two weeks later.

Any ideas or better experience  will be appriciated!

Many thanks in advance.!

hi @Climber

what engine code do you have? sounds like either the vanes are sticking (dependent on engine code and thus turbo type) or actuator solenoid is failing

Mr Muscle enema required.

This happened to me same situation. Power went, could still move but barely any throttle response, turned engine off and on and it fixed itself couple days later it happened again and I got a glow plug warning light on dash. Had to get towed. Once I changed my glow plugs it fixed the issue hasn't happened since.

So check your glow plugs would be my advice. (I could be wrong tho)

id be more inclined to do turbochecks and cleaning first...

Many thanks for the help and response!

Will try! My AGR valve is a bit covered in oil....maybe i should realy start with the cleaning and then if not......glow plugs might be the next step+the winter is coming anyway! :D :D

if your up to temp when hmthis happebs, i would be utterly amazed if the glowplugs have anything to do with it...

Could  also be an issue with the intercooler. I had this issue on track at Castle Combe. Can't recall if the glow plug light came on but after after cleaning out the intercooler and associated pipes the issue was resolved.

from previous experience driving old 1.9 tdi taxis, used to get this quite a lot, would be fine until you needed to hammer it up a hill or at a junction etc, or even just putting your foot down a bit to overtake on motorway, and every time it was turbo related issues, like previously mentioned.

vanes chocking up full of crap, normally always brought up a boost issue code too.

car would be ok to drive around the doors not going very quick but would happen as soon as you booted it!

it used to happen me with my 2litre inshi7nia too, it was the boost actuator solenoid- ie a turbo issue...

Reach down back of engine and push down on plunger on turbo actuator, if it moves in smooth and then comes back out again it's not sticking vanes. If it's stiff or can't even move it with thumb squeaks grinds etc It's time to clean it out. Vacuum lines are worth a good look at too, especially one from N75. Fault code will likely be the common P1557 overboost one if when restarting engine its back to normal again for a while. Will likely start happening more and more frequently. If EGR is looking damp it's likely going to be adding to any issues rather than being the cause of the limp mode itself at this stage and would need to be addressed one way or the other.
