Heating problem!!

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a interior heating problem with my Octavia 2.0 TSI from 2015.

The heater takes too long to start giving me hot air through the vents, about 10-15 km (7-10 miles)!!
The coolant temperature gauge rises very quickly to 90 degrees +/- 2 km (1,5 miles) and stay at 90 all the time, but the hot air in the vents arrives much later.
To compare, with my 2 other cars ( 2013 BMW 320d, and 2017 Skoda Fabia TDI) I start to have hot air on the vents after  3-4 km (2-3 miles).
After 10-15 km, the heater works normally and heats the car interior well!
I have already replaced the heater radiator and purged the coolant with G13, but it didn't help.
I also specify, that I have no error code with the VCDS, and the coolant level is OK.

I have looked at the cooling system, and there is a coolant cut-off valve (N82 or N422), and a coolant circulation pump (V51) between the main coolant pump and the heater radiator.

Do you think the problem could be with one of that two components? I don't think so, otherwise I would have no heating at all, no?

Did any of you have the same problem?

Thank you all, for help...

I had exactly these symptoms a couple of years ago, and on my vRS, the culprit was the coolant check valve.

Hi Gaz,

could you explain which valve are you talking about?

I suppose that you talk about the cut-off valve N422? ( or N82 that is the same)

Thank you

Wish I could estragos, but I'm afraid my memory fails me.  The vRS went in May 2019 (traded in for the GTI I have now) and all the paperwork went with it, so I've nothing to refer back to.

I hope you have a better outcome than I did, but wanted you to be aware that a relative simple symptom could be a sign of something more serious.  A stitch in time saves nine.

Good morning Gaz,

I took time to read your threads, and they are interesting and helpful.

My Octavia had almost the same problems like yours, but with the first owner. I bought the car 2 months ago, with a new engine and new water pump.

The original engine was burned, caused by a water pump problem, and Skoda changed the entire engine, water pump, and the full coolant system, for free.

But, as it took several months to diagnose and repair, the first owner had to buy a new Kodiaq to replace the  faulty Octavia.

So, I have a car from 2015 and 115.000km, but with a all new engine.

Everything works fine on the car, only the problem with the interior heating is present.

I already ordered a new cutt-off valve 4H0121671D , and when arrived I will replace it, and let you know if the problem is gone, or not.

Thank you for your help, and have a nice weekend…

Didn't have any symptoms as this, but but on service in December service has diagnosed issue with water pump housing, which they explained to me as quite common thing on 2.0 TSI. Engine was loosing 100-200ml between services, but I really didn't consider it alarming. After 4 years, probably the issue become visually detectable on the housing so they've found it and replaced under the warranty - with brand new cooling fluid. I have also gotten on the same service brand new AGM battery, I didn't even noticed any issues. Lovely Skoda, they fix and replace everything no questions asked.

As I understood, the device is much more then just a pump, it has different valves and redirects water. Look at the picture and those pipes everywhere:

Maybe this is where you should start looking into?

Hi Nidza,

this part on your picture is new on my car, so I suppose that it is OK.

as said before, on the cooling system of my Octavia almost everything is new, only the hoses, cutt-off valve N82, and the recirculating water pump V51 were not changed.

I already changed the heating core and purged the coolant.

Now, I will replace the N82 because it is easier to replace and cheaper.

If the problem is not solved,  the last thing left to change is the V51.

And, I hope that isn’t an adaptation on the HVAC or engine ECU that is not good, otherwise I will have spent money for nothing…

Good morning,

just to let you know, that my cabin heating issue is solved.

the problem was with the shut off valve N82 (and not cutt-off valve :x), that was blocked in close position on idle!

Replaced the valve (4H0121671D), and now I have cabin heating after only 1-2 km instead of 15 km.

Thank you all for the support, and have a nice weekend!!

Sorry to bring this back from the dead but does anyone have pics or how to guide to replace the N82 valve?
