Superb L&K at Hendy Bournemouth

Featured Replies

First post so go easy please :) I've enquired about the L&K that's just come up at Hendy Bournemouth (VO17 LZW), does anyone know the car? Looks like a nice spec with the pano roof and business grey but I'm in Wilmslow so can't easily go and see it. I'm currently in a 2010 Scirocco R and not been able to drive a Superb 280 but baby on the way means I need something much bigger and I can't think of anything else that would fit the bill for the price bracket so it's basically Superb Sportline or L&K. What do I need to check before making an offer? I've asked about service history which is all good but I've bought all my previous cars privately having seen them first so this is different in my opinion being a main dealer. How much wriggle room is there normally in dealer prices? Any and all advice welcomed. Thanks.

Thanks AGFalco. It did have a MOT but ran out on the 14th March, I suspect it was traded in pre-MOT but will have a MOT and service before I'd get it.

I got a used one on PCP, didn’t have too much wiggle room I managed like £2k off and 2 services

Last V5 issued October 2017. Points to it being a dealer demonstrator or Skoda head office car with one real owner. Don't think there's anything to worry about with that.

If it's been sitting a while I'd be more interested in them adding a year onto the warranty and performing the sunroof service prior to delivery

As it’s from a main dealer you’ll get an MOT warranty, so that’s all good.  Price wise, I got my last June and the dealer refused to budge.  The best I could do was a pathetic £100 off the service and 0% APR.  That was not long after lock down, so things may be better for you now.

I’m going to boldly/foolishly say that I don’t think there are any major problem areas, or at least I’ve not encountered anything repeatedly in the forum bar some trim issues and suspension creak.  Happy to be corrected though.

Regardless of it being a Skoda Approved Car and maybe FMDSH and a Warranty, you want to know what the Full Main Dealer Service History shows as being done.

Is it to the Manufacturers Recommendations,  So you want the Brake Fluid Changed before collecting the car if it was not done at 3 years,

& the Haldex Service @ 3 years.

Not just the oil change, did they clean the pump.  If they can not show a Full Main Dealer Service History with all done, then they can Service it again.

What's the roof service? Not heard of that before? I don't think it has been sitting, they received it as a trade in so only a couple of weeks I think. Slightly nervous looking at the last MOT that the windscreen was reported to be damaged but outside the driver view so waiting to hear back what that is.

Thanks, that's helpful. Is there somewhere I can see what servicing needs doing and when so that I can specifically ask whether certain items have been done please?

If it's windscreen damage it's likely a stonechip that's not in the driver zone?

ETA: I had a rock break my windscreen and had it replaced, only for another rock to take a massive chunk out of the glass the very next week. It wasn't enough to crack it so I'm stuck with it for a while!

On the sunroof there's an 18 month interval where you're meant to clean off all the old grease and reapply the same stuff again. Obviously nobody ever does that and for some reason the dealer never recommends it. You can buy the special grease and there is a DIY on the Audi Q7 forums, but I had my Pano roof replaced at 3 years after it started getting stiff and the mechanism started to make noises.

Service menu 3-10 years.  As Skoda shows on the Fixed Price Service & Maintenance Fixed Service Regime @ Participating Dealers.

Apart from actually removing the wheels, for the extra money taken from your wallet, what is the difference between inspect and check? All the replenishments  sound impressive until you realise that your vehicle isn't old enough or been driven sufficient miles to require/qualify for the service. Routine servicing is basic.

The difference from the *Oil and Inspection Service.* and then carrying out the *Extended Scope* for an £60 is the things shown there even though they repeat in Extended Scope stuff being done for the £185.

They are not doing the same thing twice.

Very STRANGE LISTING STUFF AS PART OF THE £185 Service again for work as part of the £60 Extended scope.

As to the Wheel coming off the car.  Maybe they are and quite possibly they are not.

Only visible belts are being checked.

The parts other than the Oil, Filter and sump plug are all at extra cost.      It is money for old rope.

But then any Skoda Approved Used Car with a FMDSH at 3 or 4 years old should show the History of the 3 or 4 year 'Manufacturers Recommended Servicing done'.

After all if you claim on a Warranty with your car and warranty they want to know the car was serviced to 'Schedule'.  The T&C's say to Manufacturers Recommendations.

Looks like a good car, but difficult to tell without photos.

Based on my experience 280 L&Ks go quickly so you'll have to get an offer in soon, otherwise someone else will get there first. Try to get some money off as I think it's slightly overpriced (but not by much). Good luck

A dealer demonstrator would be registered where the dealer is wouldn't it?

Yes, only went on yesterday morning and the salesman was at pains to tell me that there had already been 3 requests for videos. At the end of the day, I need to satisfy myself that it's a good car and that takes a bit of time, so if it goes, there's always the next one.

I thought chip, but I've got a few of those on my current car and they're never normally noted on the MOT so assumed it was possibly something more serious. Thanks for the help on the sunroof, I'll try and get them to do that too.

I bought my 280 L&K from Hendy in Bournemouth in 2018.

Like you it was a long way for me to go & view it (not as far away as you are though) but I wouldn't buy a car without seeing it in the flesh. I bit the bullet & did the 350 mile round trip to view it & apart from scuffed alloys (which Hendy refurbished within the price) all was OK so I put down a deposit. Unfortunately I missed a few scratches on the roof otherwise I would have got them to fix them as well. On my list to sort at some point.

Like others said discounts on these models are virtually non-existent as they are highly sought after. However, I managed to get a reasonable trade in value on my old 10 plate 175k mile S2 Superb 170Tdi Elegance estate as part of the deal & a set of new mats - why are the mats always missing from used cars? Probably a dealer ploy for negotiation instead of offering discounts on the car!!  They offered some free services but these were not much good to me unless they were transferable to a more local Skoda dealer - they were not so not an option.

Check the 2 x Umbrellas are in the front doors - mine were missing so I got Hendy to throw them in as well.

To pick the car up the wife & I drove back down to Bournemouth for a 2nd time only this time we made a weekend of it & stayed overnight in a local hotel - this was way before Covid so I appreciate this is probably not that easy to do right now. Hendy don't have any branches north of Hampshire so it's unlikely they could deliver to you but it may be worth an ask to save you a trip.

The price of that one you are looking at looks a bit high but it does have the Pan Roof which mine did not.

I bought my last 2 Skoda's remotely and didn't have a problem. I wanted a 280 L&K, but at the time they were like hen's teeth and couldn't find one anywhere within my budget so opted for a 170ps TDi L&K 4x4, which I was more than happy with, this was bought from Milton Keynes and I am based in Cheshire (Prestbury), like you. Recently, I have purchased a 280 L&K where I did the deal on the phone, I just asked for videos of particular areas I was interested in, wheels, interior (as light coloured) and asked for service history.  I did some due diligence on the web' to see if the car came up or had been discussed in forums, but as I was buying from a Skoda dealer I wasn't too concerned.  I had seen advertised a couple before the one I bought, but they do sell quickly and I missed out, so pulled the trigger on this one straight away.  I did travel to collect and if it had been a heap of rubbish I would have walked away, but it wasn't!

Pity we have the Covid restrictions because you could have nipped over to try mine (Mitchel Skoda  at Chester have a 280 I think - 40 minutes from you if you can blag a drive?). Don't think you will be disappointed as it's quite quick for a big car!

Thanks. They do seem to be rare and fought over when they appear (apparently there's someone else quite far down the interested route with it too). I sent an email so that I could get condition reports in writing back and followed up by phone this morning. Sounds like the first owner was a dealer, hence the 2 owners and high spec. All servicing will be done in line with Skoda requirements. I'm torn about going to collect (5 hour train journey) but the COVID option of 14 days to return for a refund is also appealing. I suspect I lose this if I go to collect. The one at Mitchel has been for sale for ages!

They are 'Registered Keepers',  so that can be Skoda UK, VW Finance, or a Dealership and some use an Employees Name like the Head Sales Executive, or the CEO's spouse.

So that can be a Demonstrator, Courtesy Car, the CEO's spouses mothers car etc etc.

1st keeper, no idea how many drivers.

Then the 2nd Keeper can be 'Hertz' or 'Tesco' or anyone, company or individual.

So Registered Keepers mean very little.

The car at the Dealers is In Trade so not showing the dealers as a Registered Keeper just now.

But as with all used cars, unless you personally know who had the car you just have to go on the info you can get and the condition.

As you say the Mitchell one has been for sale a loooong time, not sure why they haven't discounted? Cheap, but wheels need a refurb, no pan roof and the brown leather interior not to everyone's taste.  They are a great dealership I drive there for servicing instead of Lookers in Stockport who are a bunch of morons, as I said when I walked out after having used them once, I will never return.

There do seem to be a few more appearing so all is not lost if it doesn't work out on the Hendrys vehicle, but you are going to have to travel to find one I think?  They are an approved dealership, if the last change of ownership was March 2017 after 6 months, then as others have said a demonstrator and first real owner thereafter. Full MDSH, warranty, I would go for it if the spec if what you want and price is your budget, can't see too many issues, throw in a 30K service, pan roof service, mot, close-up of the windscreen chip and off you go.....:-)

Just hate being rushed by salesmen. No money off to be had but he'll refurb 3 of the 4 wheels and do full service and mot. It was a dealer demo at Worcester. Apparently no issue with the windscreen so he suspects has been replaced. I'm not in a huge rush to change (baby due in August), but do like the pano roof which I don't think comes up too often.  Now slightly worried that my wife hasn't driven one yet and should probably do that first. Decisions, decisions...
