Fuel filter 2012 Greenline 1.6tdi

Featured Replies

Eurocarfarts have listed a Bosch 1 457 070 008 fuel filter for a 2012 Greenline 1.6tdi but it don't fit mister!

The old filter has the green seal, the hole in the top of the Bosch filter is possibly 2mm in diameter too small, and this is pretty annoying when you're half way through a job.

I can't see a part number or makers name on the old filter, can anyone recommend a part that will fit?

Further ...

I've tried to put the old filter and seal back on the car and the top of the housing is now sitting about 2mm too high - I was VERY gentle when prising the top off, are they really soft or am I missing something?

2 things, how do you know the housing is 2mm high?
What do you mean " I was VERY gentle when prising the top off," ?

There is a 2mm gap between the fuel filter housing and the lid, no matter what I do I can't push the lid down further.

Lid? I am wondering whether I may have caused the problem when prising the lid off - but I don't think the lid is that flimsy.

Could the refitted (original) lid seal be causing the problem?

I have changed a dozen of these on previous VAG diesels and never had any problems, this is a puzzle

I read old filter as oil filter sorry.

These filters, the top needs a bit more force to seat properly, the seal is a little oversized. I've had to use a small block of soft wood and rubber mallet to get some to sit right before.

As for the filter, does the new one not fit over the pipe on the lid at all? The part numbers on the box match up to what you have there.

@HeavyMetalRichyes, part numbers on the box match.

The previous filter fits right onto the pipe on the lid and slides all the way up, the Bosch filter won't fit on at all.

I've already coated the drive with diesel when putting the old filter back in with the new lid seal in place and firmly screwed down, I have no wish to add to that again.

@Urrell you have the same engine, have you had any similar problems with your 1.6tdi ?

This is useful, once you've allowed Google to translate;

https://www.skoda-dily.cz/blog/jak-poznat-spravny-palivovy-filtr-pro-octavia-2-tdi-11.html

And low and behold, this is the filter in my car at the moment

So it would appear that I have a filter housing that's normally fitted to 1.9 or 2.0tdi engines.

@Urrell want a filter? :)

I'm thinking you've possibly gotten the wrong type of filter in the right box.

I have to say though, I've changed a few of this type of filter but I've yet to see one that actually uses this slightly smaller element. My Roomster 1.6 TDi had a different kind again which was a sealed canister.

Mine is the same as the one you have taken out.

I checked that the part number on the box matched the number on the filter.

I think VAG mix and match parts on the assembly line depending upon supply, which is fine as long as you know?

I'm not the one to criticize, I come from a family that used to put chip papers behind the panels in Allegros !

As a final write off - ECP exchanged the part and will apparently amend their online shop to show that there are several filters that may fit.

The filter housing lid was a s.o.b. to refit, eventually I used 6" of soft wood and a rubber mallet and gently tapped it into place tapping alternately at 90 degrees until it sat correctly.

Priming was not easy, even with a full housing the air lock stopped the car starting. I'm lucky enough to live next door to an AA patrolman who has an amazing toolkit, he removed the return feed and bled the air out  but even that wasn't straightforward as the car refused to prime until the key was removed and the car locked. I heard the pump briefly activate when the drivers door was opened - I tried again with the filler cap removed and only then would the pump prime fully and the car finally started.

I can't believe the drama involved in a simple fuel filter change, I've done loads before with no problems.

Bloody garage can do the next change!

They usually bleed up by cycling the ignition on and off. It can take up to 15 times to get the fuel through properly, sometimes ten will do, then try starting.

You've not had a great time with that service. Hopefully you'll have better luck with any more.
