DSG remap?

Featured Replies

I am considering a DSG remap for my 2016 Octavia VRS Tdi Combi and wonder what people's thoughts were?

There seem to be quite a few tuners offering DSG remapping so it would be good to know any to avoid?

My reasoning is I find the gear changes especially in S not really optimal especially when slowing for sharp corners and the accelerating away, always a bit jerky.

Recently had the 40k DSG service but doesn't seem to have improved it much but did notice on my obdeleven that they didn't update the factory software.

Not looking to have the car it self remapped as find it powerful enough for every day use.

I had a pedal box fitted and it made a big difference to what you are talking about.

Also an engine map is not just about peak power. The way the power is delivered is more of a benefit with a map.  From the reviews I have read about dsg maps they are more subtle and it's very difficult to actually change the shift points. Far easier and improves other aspects if you map the engine and fit a pedal box.

The pedal box doesn't change anything other than it gives more accelerator input than you are pressing. So you press 50% and it send 75% etc.

I'd save your money and not bother with a pedal box.

With a DSG remap they can change the shift points in both D and S. The shifts can also be quickened slightly and they can also increase the hydraulic and clutch pressures to handle more power.

While this is true about the pedal input, the affect it has on the driveability and gear selection is undeniable.

It may also be true about the shift points for some dsg maps but many of the maps that claim to alter them mearly speed up the shifts. An engine remap making the engine more lively makes the stock shift points far more bearable. I certainly wouldn't have a day map without an engine map. Particularly on a 2.0 TDI.

I had a pedal box fitted to my previous car, a BMW 5 series, and it made driving so much more fun.

The BMW had a lag between pressing the accelerator pedal and output.

I've retained it and was toying of the idea of installing it on my VRS, as it certainly puts a smile on my face (and fear on the faces of passengers).

So I have had a chat with a couple of places that do the software update but it's probably not worth it as I am not going to be remapping the car.

I pinged an email to Dtuk asking which would be of more benefit and the pedal box would give me more benefit, especially as their DSG software is more expensive. So I have ordered one in the sale and will see how it goes.

I got the DSG Stage 1 from Revo, in Sport mode makes a huge difference.

But did do it the same time as the engine Stage 1 remap.

My only issue with it is when in Sport, IT'S IN SPORT!!!

So no gentle driving, but that's what the other modes are for.

Fitted my pedal box at the weekend and got to try it out today for the first time properly. Certainly transforms the pedal feel and the pickup from standstill, also seems to make the stop/start less jerky at pull away. Tried it in Comfort and Sport but not Sport+ yet. A good improvement over the standard pedal feel.

A PedalBox definitely adds to the fun of driving... enjoy!

Dont forget you have the +/- settings too.  Its worth leaving in comfort or sport and playing with the micro-adjust.  You might find you prefer a major setting higher or lower than you expected because of it.

Sounds like you are happy with it though.

I'm not sure I'd let anyone other than the manufacture alter things like clutch pressure or anything concerning synchronisation, unless you want a hefty bill later on down the line!

I've been looking into changing the shift points on my Scala but I've not found any consistent information about reading the DQ200 or obtaining original bin files.  If anyone could point me in the direction, I'd be very happy to share any work I do with the group.  For me I would like to raise the low pedal drive and coast upshifts in Drive and raise the braking downshifts in Sport and maybe a few tweaks here and there (i.e prevent start-stop)!
